Job Description 

Optimus seeks an organized, detail-oriented Sales Engineer in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a full-time salaried position ($114,480-$124,880) with benefits. This position is ideal for candidates with extensive experience providing guidance on sales application issues, requests for and configuration of options, and technical support in regard to products, specifications, compatibility, and pricing. There is a travel requirement of approximately 25-75% of work time in order to gain an intimate understanding of the practical application and long-term operation of the Vector System, as well as interfacing with internal and external stakeholders. 

The position is a key player in driving Optimus’s growth by providing technical expertise, customization analysis, and overall support to internal and external customers.  This position will serve as a trusted advisor, building strong relationships with decision-makers and guiding them through the adoption, installation, and utilization process.

Responsibilities 

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the Vector system showcasing its value and potential benefits to customers. 
  • Navigate complex enterprise structures to achieve stakeholder alignment and assist the sales team with accelerating and closing sales contracts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospects and customers, act as a liaison between the customer and internal teams and provide ongoing technical support and follow-up after sales.
  • Prepare and give technical presentations to explain how the Vector and SMARTFuel systems operate to potential customers.
  • Confer with customers and engineers to assess fleet vehicle design, understand a customer’s technical requirements, and determine system and develop detailed product specifications to meet their needs.
  • Develop specifications and engineered drawings/models to assist the sales team in the scoping the technical aspects of Optimus’ product with customers.
  • Utilize CAD or other modeling software to visualize solutions, create preliminary models or prototypes and present models to clients for feedback and refinement.
  • Review sales proposals for accuracy, component compatibility, feasibility, and product application viability.
  • Partner with Optimus project management, Engineering, Production, and Field Services to determine suitable implementation timelines and aid in forecasting.  
  • Ensure appropriate resources are allocated for product installation and support throughout the sales cycle.  
  • Support ongoing Optimus design, installation, and diagnostic efforts.
  • Read, interpret, and utilize appropriate technical drawing, schematics, electrical diagrams and manuals to assist customers with preliminary questions regarding installations, troubleshooting, and repairs.   
  • Have the ability to inform technical decisions based on specific engines and chassis.
  • Participate in company-sponsored sales activities.
  • Foster strong internal relationships with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Sales, Customer Support, and Engineering.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a Sales Engineering or Sales Management role
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques, parts, tools, and materials used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heavy automotive equipment and processes.
  • Knowledge of technical modeling and documentation software (i.e - Onshape, Arena, etc)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
