Operations Manager

California, United States

About Us

We live by the saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, and our mission is to empower healthy and thriving communities. Ounce is a first-of-its-kind community-based service model. Enabled by technology, we provide services to residents of affordable housing properties, improving engagement and outcomes at scale.

We are looking for creative and kind teammates to join us in this journey.

About the Role

As an Operations Manager at Ounce, you’ll lead day-to-day service delivery across a growing portfolio of affordable housing communities, with an initial focus on properties in California and the broader West Coast. You’ll manage a team of community navigators (and potentially team leads) and ensure a high-quality, standardized experience for residents.

We are strategically spreading our management capacity across time zones to support teams nationally. For this role, we’re specifically looking for someone based in the Pacific Time Zone to align with our service delivery in the West and support cross-country coordination.

This role also presents an exciting opportunity to help shape the delivery of services with varying degrees of tech enablement. You’ll collaborate closely with our virtual operations team and help define how virtual and in-person service models work together. We’re looking for someone who can not only manage current operations but also help build and refine new approaches to care delivery.

In this role, you will be a:

  • Diligent operator – You love managing processes and keeping the trains running on time, especially when it comes to people-powered services. You balance daily troubleshooting with progress against the bigger picture.
  • Coach with clarity – You motivate others and support your team in hitting performance goals through high expectations and clear, supportive guidance.
  • Systems thinker – You understand the nuances of coordinating virtual and in-person work, and you’re energized by working on that challenge.
  • Data-maniac – You use data and evidence wherever possible to inform strategic decisions and team coaching.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Experienced people manager – You've successfully led teams delivering in-person, hybrid, or tech-enabled services, with a track record of high-quality and standardized delivery at scale.
  • Tech-enabled Services background – You’ve operated within a service organization, ideally in areas like care navigation, community health, or social services.
  • Builder mindset – You've worked in early-stage or evolving organizations and know how to build while doing.
  • Mission-driven – Your past work reflects a strong alignment with Ounce’s purpose and values.
  • Pacific Time Zone-based – You're located in PST (California preferred), with the ability to travel occasionally across the West Coast and to other markets as needed.
  • Fearless navigator – You thrive in ambiguity and excel at building clarity for yourself and others as things take shape.

Other Information:

  • Full-time

  • Travel: Moderate frequency across the West Coast and occasional visits to other regions or HQ

  • Salary: $80,000 – $100,000 per year
  • Benefits:

    • 401(k)

    • Health, dental, and vision insurance

    • Flexible PTO policy
