Senior Manufacturing Automation Engineer

Hybrid - San Diego, California; Hybrid - San Francisco, California

Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped millions of people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles.

Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Automation Engineer with a strong background in high volume consumer electronics manufacturing to join our US team. In this role, you will own and continuously improve manufacturing processes, driving meaningful improvements to assembly methods across both NPI and sustaining programs.

You will lead technical manufacturing initiatives at our contract manufacturers, working closely with global Manufacturing teams to optimize machine based processes, while also supporting and improving manual assembly operations as needed.

This role sits at the intersection of Manufacturing, R&D, and Supply Chain. You will partner with internal engineering teams and CM factories to develop, scale, and ramp new products, with a clear focus on delivering high quality output at volume.

You will be hands on on the factory floor, ensuring Oura owned equipment and processes operate reliably and consistently produce products that meet quality standards. Comfort working across automation, tooling, machinery, and manual processes is essential.

What You Will Do

  • Support and oversee Oura manufacturing at contract manufacturer sites, helping resolve issues and remove bottlenecks that impact quality, cost, or throughput.
  • Train factory teams on product assembly processes and monitor assembly quality to ensure standards are met.
  • Partner with equipment and machine suppliers to troubleshoot issues and develop long term solutions for factory floor equipment.
  • Monitor automated processes to ensure consistent quality and high uptime, tracking machine performance and driving preventive maintenance as needed.
  • Analyze machine uptime, failure modes, and root causes to improve reliability and throughput in collaboration with CMs and equipment vendors.
  • Work closely with Oura NPI programs and factory teams to ensure manufacturing readiness, on time prototype builds, and successful production ramps.
  • Lead action plans to address process capability and product quality issues, with a strong focus on end customer satisfaction.
  • Report process performance, risks, and improvement progress to NPI program teams and the broader Oura Manufacturing organization.
  • Anticipate future manufacturing challenges and opportunities by evaluating system-level tradeoffs, risks, and constraints.
  • Help teams focus on what matters most while simplifying processes for scale and reliability.
  • Work cross-functionally to frame complex decisions, align on priorities, and drive timely, informed choices that balance speed, quality, cost, and long-term platform impact across products and programs
  • Analyze relationships between manufacturing KPIs and product design choices to identify and implement solutions that improve product quality, capability, and factory efficiency.

We’d Love to Have You on the Team If You Have

  • A deep passion for making—trying new approaches, learning through iteration, and finding energy in the daily rhythm of design and data-informed decisions.
  • A proven track record working in or with high volume consumer electronics manufacturing environments.
  • Hands on experience with electronics assembly processes and close collaboration with factory partners.
  • Experience supporting miniaturized product designs.
  • Background contributing to product design for manufacturability, as well as the design of manufacturing tooling and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing process parameters and statistical process control, with experience improving yields and fine tuning process controls.
  • The ability to work effectively in a complex, cross functional environment with internal teams, external partners, and factory stakeholders.
  • A structured, organized approach to work, with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Comfort communicating clearly in both written and spoken English.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.
  • Experience developing manufacturing processes from early proof-of-concept through pilot builds and into sustained mass production, navigating the transitions and tradeoffs required at each phase.
  • Direct experience working with manufacturing partners in Asia, including time spent on factory floors supporting line bring-up, equipment integration, and production ramps.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, machine programming, automation controls, or mechanical system design
