Algorithm Scientist - Summer Intern

We are looking for an Algorithm Scientist Summer Intern to join us to build our next-gen products. You will work closely with experienced scientists and engineers to develop new exciting sensing capacities and user-facing features for Oura’s next-gen hardware products.The internship duration is 3-4 months, with flexible start and end dates between May-September 2026. 

What you will do:

  • Contribute to the research and prototyping of signal processing and/or machine learning methods for Oura’s new health sensing features/products.
  • Support the design and execution of internal data collection efforts to develop, evaluate, and benchmark proof-of-concept algorithms.
  • Analyze experimental data to characterize signal behavior, identify limitations, and evaluate algorithm performance.
  • Document, summarize, and present data analysis and algorithm performance results with concrete actionable recommendations for a broad audience.
  • Collaborate with hardware and firmware teams to understand sensing constraints and incorporate them into algorithm development and feasibility assessments.

This is a hybrid/in office role reporting to our San Diego, CA office location (Carmel Mountain)

We would love to consider you for this role if you:

  • Are pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree in biomedical engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, biostatistics, or a related field
  • Have strong Python skills and experience with scientific or machine learning libraries (e.g., NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, or similar) and experience with code collaboration tools (e.g., git)
  • Have coursework or hands-on experience in signal processing and machine learning
  • Communicate clearly in both writing and conversation, with the ability to explain technical concepts to a multidisciplinary audience
  • Are excited to explore ideas hands-on, analyze real-world sensor data, and iterate quickly on solutions
  • Able to work five days a week, with at least three days per week at our San Diego (Carmel Mountain) office during the internship

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

  • Region 2: $97,750 - $115,000
