Maintenance Associate (Facilities Management)
Outerspace is a new type of Ops Center. We come from the brand side and have built and led operations for companies like Steve Madden, Prada and Nice Laundry. We leverage the latest technology to support our high growth brands and their daily operations. Outerspace provides a number of services including, but not limited to, warehousing and fulfillment, customization and light manufacturing, and product photography.
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Maintenance Associate to join the team. The Maintenance Associate performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and upkeep tasks across facility grounds, buildings, and equipment. The Maintenance Associate plays a hands-on role in keeping the facility safe, functional, and operational. Work is performed indoors and outdoors and may include working at heights, operating powered industrial equipment, and performing tasks in plumbing, electrical, and general mechanical maintenance.
Reports to: Senior Director of Facilities
Compensation: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour DOE
Responsibilities:
General Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks on buildings, equipment, and grounds
- Complete work orders in a timely and thorough manner as assigned by the Facilities Director
- Assist with minor repairs including patching, painting, carpentry, and general facility upkeep
- Identify and report safety hazards, equipment deficiencies, or needed repairs
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance shop, storage areas, and work zones
- Perform other duties as needed
Plumbing
- Perform basic plumbing repairs including unclogging drains, repairing or replacing faucets,
- valves, toilets, and supply lines
- Assist with installation and maintenance of plumbing fixtures and piping
- Identify and report leaks, water damage, or plumbing system failures
Power Tools & Equipment
- Safely operate a variety of power tools including drills, saws, grinders, and impact drivers
- Inspect tools before use; report damaged or unsafe equipment
- Follow all manufacturer guidelines and safety procedures for tool operation
Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Equipment
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, order pickers, scissor lifts, and other PIT equipment as needed
- Conduct pre-operation inspections and complete required checklists
- Follow all facility traffic rules and PIT safety procedures
- Must hold or be able to obtain facility PIT certification
Work at Heights
- Work safely on ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and elevated platforms
- Follow all fall protection requirements including harness use when required
- Must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
- Complete fall protection and elevated work training as required
Driving & Transportation
- Operate company vehicles to transport materials, supplies, or equipment between locations
- Follow all traffic laws and company vehicle use policies
- Complete vehicle inspection logs before and after use
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Vocational training in trades (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or mechanical) preferred
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a maintenance, construction, or facilities role
- Prior experience operating forklifts or aerial lifts a plus
- Relevant certifications (OSHA 10, forklift, etc.) preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, but not required
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and reach overhead
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted; team lift for heavier loads
- Must be able to work at heights on ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts
- Exposure to outdoor conditions including heat, cold, rain, and humidity
- Exposure to industrial noise, dust, chemicals, and moving equipment
- Must be able to wear required PPE including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, steel-
- toed boots
- Must be able to work in confined spaces with proper training and clearance
