This position will be based in Charlotte, NC. 

Reporting

This position will report into the Assistant General Counsel. 

Summary of Role 

We are looking for a Corporate Counsel to join our fast-growing legal team. Reporting to our Assistant General Counsel this position will be a key leader and trusted advisor with broad responsibility for many aspects of commercial, legal, governance, risk, and compliance matters in furtherance of the company’s growth and strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will have a “can do” attitude and willingness to roll up their sleeves to support and build critical legal and compliance functions to support growth and scaling initiatives with high velocity.

The Corporate Counsel is a pragmatic problem-solver who thrives on building innovative processes and programs that focus on driving our business initiatives forward. As a trusted advisor, the corporate counsel will also have a lead role in important corporate initiatives such as operationalizing commercial contracting elements, managing compliance and enterprise risk across company verticals, and serving as a key cross-functional contact.

Strategic & Tactical

  • Work as a generalist to provide support and establish positive relationships with various business partners including operations, customer support and sales to advise the business on issues through all stages of the business lifecycle
  • Maintain the company’s core agreements with its customers and key partners, including master services agreements for its EPC partners
  • Structure, draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements and key vendor contracts
  • Counsel and oversee compliance for a broad range of regulatory and licensing matters including all business, trade and any other licenses required to be held by the company or its employees
  • Implement and oversee systems and processes to efficiently scale the legal team’s capabilities 
  • Collaborate with internal business partners to assess legal compliance and provide practical advice and day-to-day support to internal stakeholders regarding legal risks, business strategies, and other issues related to general legal matters
  • Collaborate across all functions to deliver sound and actionable legal advice to effectively achieve business objectives while protecting the company's interests
  • Identify, manage, and resolve consumer escalations in a manner consistent with the company's business philosophy and strategy; manage litigation, arbitration and other disputes as needed
  • Other duties and assignments determined by the Assistant General Counsel to support internal stakeholders and continually enhance processes for execution of the company's strategies
  • Develop and present training to various personnel throughout the organization, drive awareness of legal compliance, and risk management guidelines

Qualifications

  • Juris doctorate from an accredited law school; admitted to at least one state bar in the U.S.
  • 5 or more years of legal experience in regulated businesses, in-house counsel experience is highly preferred; public company experience a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to learn on the job and develop in new areas of the law and drive new applications of existing laws to support innovation
  • Motivated self-starter with a strong ownership mentality who creatively identifies and resolves issues
  • Open to learning new aspects of in-house legal work and motivated by hands-on tasks
  • Ability to prioritize and work with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment while delivering at a high level with a collaborative, customer service approach
  • Exceptional degree of integrity, ethics and trust; highly professional with the ability to maintain confidence
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
