Purpose of Position:
Reporting to the Vice President, Fund Finance – Valuation Analytics, the Associate will assist with valuation analysis and oversight on a portfolio of Infrastructure investments, including but not limited to co-investments, fund investments, and direct positions. The role will form an integral part of the overall valuations process and the candidate will work closely the Pantheon Valuation Committee (“PVC”), the Fund Finance Team, the Investment Team, Investment Structuring Team, and the Portfolio Data & Fund Valuations Team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing and providing guidance to the team and review team outputs on General Partners and external valuation reviews for reporting and audit purposes
- Providing valuation technical support (including industry trends and regulations) and resolving ad-hoc queries from the PVC and other Pantheon Teams
- Assisting with development and implementation of valuation processes for new strategies, build efficiencies and focusing on continuous improvement.
- Managing the updates of Pantheon’s valuation memorandum and policies at least once a year, developing new valuation policies for new product launches, and the ongoing maintenance of the policies to ensure compliance with latest accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Managing the audit planning process, provide support and analysis to external audit teams and assisting with the management of the annual audits relating to valuations
- Managing external relationships with third-party valuation firms, auditors, and board communications where required
- Overseeing timely and accurate delivery of PVC materials (valuation of directs and co-investments, and the monthly valuations for Pantheon’s regulated investment funds) and attendance at PVC meetings to provide input
- Charing or voting member of various PVC meetings, ensuring valuations are reasonable, independent of the investment function and in accordance with Pantheon’s Valuation Policy
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations and Pantheon policy (including reporting compliance risks and maintaining appropriate standards of conduct
- Managing team outputs and encourage culture of best practice, thereby ensuring NAV accuracy especially for the evergreen strategies.
- Management and development of direct report(s), including regular one to ones, and annual and semi-annual appraisals, and training
- Managing team deliverables and performance, creates opportunities for team members’ development and growth
Knowledge and Experience Required:
Essential background and skillset:
- Private capital valuation knowledge is essential, experience with infrastructure and income funds
- Strong understanding of valuation methodologies including good understanding of best practice valuation techniques under IPEV / IFRS / US GAAP for level 3 securities
- Strong knowledge of software packages including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Knowledge of data visualisation (PowerBI) and excellent analytical skills
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), organisational, interpersonal, and teaming skills
- Experience of working in a busy team with tight deadlines, managing competing priorities
- A degree with demonstrated aptitude in quantitative and qualitative analysis, A Level Maths or equivalent
- Progress towards a CFA, CAIA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent designation
Desirable (additional) background and skillset:
- Experience with valuation and operational aspects of servicing 40 Act registered funds
- Experience in managing and having direct line report(s)
- Accounting, or auditing experience, especially relating to infrastructure funds/ illiquid investments and/or company valuations
