Senior Engineering Manager, Editor

New York, NY

Paperless Post is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead and inspire a cross-functional engineering team responsible for the Editor, the heart of the Paperless Post product used by a global community of over 220 million hosts and receivers. The Editor is not just an application; it’s a creative tool that makes it simple and intuitive for hosts to design and personalize invitations that look like a professional designer made them for all the moments that matter. This role is about owning and evolving that experience as the product and team grow.

As a key leader, you will support and develop a talented group of frontend, backend, full-stack and test engineers who care deeply about craft and user experience. You’ll partner closely with product, product design and a talented team of graphic designers to shape the roadmap, make thoughtful trade-offs, and ensure the Editor can support complex use cases without becoming hard to understand or use.

While you won’t be a day-to-day contributor to the code, you will bring strong technical judgment and product instincts to architectural decisions and delivery discussions. Your role is to help the team work through complexity, gain clarity, and keep work moving forward, holding your team accountable for successful, on-time execution. This is an opportunity to lead a thoughtful, creative team doing highly visible and meaningful work at Paperless Post.

You will:

Own team output and delivery: Set the pace for execution and help the team consistently ship high-quality outcomes.

  • Own delivery of product and technical outcomes
  • Establish clear priorities and expectations to support steady, high-quality execution
  • Remove blockers and friction so work moves efficiently from concept to delivery
  • Build momentum through focus, clarity, and decisive execution strategy
  • Advocate for both product and technical priorities, acting as connective tissue between the product team and the engineers on Editor responsible for execution

Be a subject matter expert: Develop a deep understanding of the product, the domain, and how customers use the Editor.

  • Develop deep knowledge of the Paperless Post product, business, and technical landscape including how users create, customize, and express themselves through the Editor
  • Use customer insights to guide decisions, trade-offs, and prioritization

Partner with product and design: Translate vision into an executable roadmap that balances creativity, usability, and impact.

  • Partner closely with product managers to define, prioritize, and deliver a balanced roadmap
  • Collaborate with product managers and product designers to ensure the Editor remains intuitive and easy-to-use
  • Collaborate with our Content Designers, a talented internal group of graphic designers who conceive of the end product that our users customize and send
  • Ensure the team is aligned around outcomes, priorities, and a shared definition of success
  • Turn ambiguity into clear direction and forward progress

Ensure team success: Create the conditions for smooth execution and healthy team operations.

  • Support growth through regular one-on-ones, coaching, and feedback
  • Manage day-to-day team operations and monitor sprint health
  • Resolve cross-functional dependencies and coordination challenges
  • Continuously refine processes by identifying what’s working and what isn’t, and make concrete improvements to how the team operates
  • Create clarity around ownership, expectations, and follow-through

Foster collaboration: Build a culture where creativity, trust, and ownership can thrive.

  • Create a supportive environment where engineers can focus on execution and growth
  • Encourage thoughtful, creative engineers to share ideas and help shape the future of our product
  • Reinforce a culture that values craft, collaboration, and shared ownership of outcomes

Participate in technical and architectural discussions: Help guide technical direction with strong judgment and user empathy.

  • Understand the architecture and ecosystem, ensuring alignment between technical decisions and the broader goals of the team and organization
  • Apply strong frontend and architectural judgment to help the team simplify complex problems into clear, maintainable solutions

Develop your team: Invest in growth, clarity, and long-term impact.

  • Set clear expectations and provide timely, actionable guidance
  • Help engineers grow in impact, confidence, and ownership

You have:

  • Extensive experience as both an IC and a manager: At least 6 years of experience as a senior-level frontend or full-stack individual contributor, followed by at least 6 years leading and managing and mentoring engineers, fostering inclusive, healthy, and high-performing teams.
  • Full-stack understanding: Significant experience with frontend technologies (React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks), paired with solid backend and systems knowledge
  • Product partnership skills: The ability to collaborate deeply with product managers, contribute to roadmap planning, and ensure alignment between technical feasibility and product/business goals
  • Ownership mindset: A strong sense of ownership for team outcomes, with the ability to make thoughtful trade-offs, improve how work gets done, and drive meaningful impact
  • Technical depth: While you won’t code, you can effectively participate in technical discussions, ask the right questions, and help teams reason through trade-offs to ensure thoughtful decision-making
  • Strong communication: Clear, empathetic, and collaborative communication skills to work effectively across engineering, product, and design
  • Experience working on highly interactive or creative user-facing products is a plus

Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
