About The Team:
At Pareto, we harness rich healthcare data and analytics to support our customers to make informed decisions around their employee health benefit offerings. Analytics is a growing team of highly skilled analytic resources who work together toward a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization. We use an array of healthcare and internal business data to provide analytic insights that support the entire organization, including Cost Containment, Underwriting, Account Management, Product Management, and Sales and Marketing. Our key focus areas include:
- Assessing the specific impact of Pareto solutions on the cost and quality of healthcare for our member organizations
- Identifying opportunities for cost savings and quality improvements for our member organizations
- Providing deep intelligence on population risk for new and renewing member organizations
- Designing metrics and insights that provide internal visibility into business and customer “health” and identify areas for improvement
Position Summary:
As a Data Scientist, you will work with a team bringing insights to life to shape our product strategy and roadmap, deepen customer insights and improve savings, develop proof points for the market, and support strategic decision-making at the company. In partnership with cross-functional stakeholders, you will help execute the vision and strategy for the Analytics team and develop data models and tools to advance our internal operations and external partnerships. This position will report to the VP of Analytics.
This position requires experience working with rich, multi-faceted data that include medical and pharmacy claims as well as CRM data, plus deep skills in analytic methods and data science techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Understand and champion the Analytics team’s roadmap and priorities
- Lead all phases of analyses, including:
- Partnering with stakeholders to ensure understanding of business priorities
- Designing, testing, and refining the appropriate analytic methodologies o Building necessary data queries and visualizations to execute the solution
- Presenting results in a clear and efficient manner
- Appropriately documenting and maintaining the methodologies used
- Partner with Product and Engineering to streamline delivery of analytic outputs
- Proactively seek out opportunities where analytic insights can improve business outcomes
- Promote a culture of data-driven decision making across the organization

Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a quantitative/analytic field or equivalent work experience
- 8+ years’ experience in a healthcare-based analytics role
- 5+ years’ experience working directly with administrative and/or clinical healthcare data (medical and pharmacy claims, EMR data is a plus); FHIR or EDI experience is a plus
- Experience working with data from CRM systems, e.g., Salesforce
- Experience in data cleansing, analysis, and modeling using large, complex datasets
- Experience with statistical modeling techniques and common analytical frameworks at scale; familiarity with machine learning techniques and algorithms
- Expert SQL skills and proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java
- Experience with data science tools and platforms like Jupyter, Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or similar
- Strong data visualization skills using tools such as Tableau
- Strong understanding of the healthcare insurance industry
- Bonus: Familiarity with or experience supporting underwriting and actuarial risk assessments for healthcare insurance coverage
- Bonus: Familiarity with AWS Serverless Services and data tools, such as S3, Lambda, Glue, Sagemaker and EMR
