Engineering Manager (Web) - SF
Perplexity is looking for an engineering manager to join our small team revolutionizing the way people search and interact with the internet. You will be responsible for leading the web engineering team.
Engineers at Perplexity design, create, and ship systems that power product experiences across a growing stack. To scale, we are investing in a growing web engineering team that will be responsible for building delightful, interactive, and fast web experiences, collaborating primarily with product and backend teams. As we scale, the frontend at Perplexity is growing quickly both in volume and number of use cases, so it will be critical to be able to manage complex and parallel projects.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering leadership across multiple layers of a rapidly growing product
- Set standards for reliability, code quality, testing, and maintenance
- Oversee onboarding and ensure code quality for a growing team
- Work closely with infrastructure, full-stack, and frontend platform teams to instrument logging and build reusable tooling
- Develop rigorous interview pipelines and work closely with recruiting to source candidates
Qualifications
- Ability to design reusable and scalable systems and processes
- Ability to constructively identify technical debt
- Ability to cleanly resolve engineering blockers
- Strong organizational skills for managing and delivering parallel technical projects
- Experience working with multiple small teams of engineers
- Experience leveraging the right combination of open source and in-house solutions
- Familiarity with AI/ML capabilities and limitations
- 8+ years of engineering experience
- 4+ years of engineering management experience
Nice to Have
- Experience with Next.js
- Experience with mobile applications that use webviews
- Experience with desktop applications that use web rendering engines e.g. Electron
Our cash compensation range for this role is $250,000 - $300,000.
