
Communications Manager

We’re looking for a talented communicator to manage our media relations and tell stories that matter—to journalists, educators, industry leaders, our own teams, and more. In this high-ownership role, you’ll translate complex AI topics into impactful stories, shape media understanding, and work closely with partners and product leaders. This role combines traditional public relations duties with original and proactive efforts to bring accurate answers to everyone. The Communications Manager will lead our media relations efforts while also developing and executing communications programs that support broader company goals. Key Responsibilities
Media Relations
- Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, and industry journalists
- Press Release Management: Collaborate with external partners and internal teams on individual media efforts.
- Media Pitching: Proactively pitch stories and secure media coverage across print, digital, and broadcast channels
- Reactive Communications: Handle inbound media inquiries and develop rapid response statements
- Crisis Communications: Support crisis communications planning and execution as needed
- Media Monitoring: Track media coverage and industry trends relevant to our organization
Strategic Communication
- Internal Documentation: Create useful and necessary internal communications materials, presentations, and strategic documents
- External Programs: Develop and execute external programs for engaging with journalists, researchers, students, and industry leaders
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with marketing, legal, and executive teams to ensure consistent messaging
Required Experience
- 4-7 years of public relations or communications experience
- Proven track record in media relations with established journalist relationships
- Experience managing multiple PR campaigns simultaneously
- Experience simplifying technical concepts for broader audiences
- Strong background in reactive media relations
- Demonstrated success in securing media coverage across various channels
- Experience developing internal communications materials and presentations
- Project management experience with cross-functional teams
- Experience organizing events, programs, or training initiatives
- Ability to translate complex business strategies into clear communications

- Writing and Editing Excellence: Exceptional command of language across all formats, with a demonstrated ability to conceptualize and ensure engaging and original communications.
- Relationship Building: Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships with media, stakeholders, and internal teams
- AI Proficiency: Strong understanding of industry trends and underlying technological advances as well as proficiency using AI tools as part of daily work
- Project Management: Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
- Portfolio demonstrating successful media relations outcomes
- Editorial experience managing content and writers
- Strong communication skills and comfort speaking to executive stakeholders
- Background in journalism, corporate communications, or written communications
- Previous agency and in-house experience
- Advanced degree in communications, journalism, or related field
- Experience with content management
Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including, experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
