WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Per Scholas is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-oriented Instructional Design Assistant to serve as the right hand to our Director during the initial analysis and design phases of technical training. Above all else, we are looking for someone with a real world technical background. You should have a foundational understanding of the industrial world, perhaps as a former technician, maintenance assistant, or industrial consultant. You need to know your way around a factory floor and understand the basic systems that keep a facility running.
Because this role focuses on the first phases of the ADDIE process, you must have a solid grasp of instructional design principles. You will be responsible for taking raw technical data and organizing it into a logical plan for learning. Finally, you should be an AI-First thinker. You will use tools like Gemini to speed up mundane tasks so you can spend more time on the creative architecture of our curriculum. To succeed here, you must be business-minded within our mission focus and excel in supporting high level design that meets the expectations of our national advanced manufacturing partners.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Foundational Design and Analysis (60%):
- Initial Outlining: You will draft the first versions of lesson plans, learning objectives, and competency maps for the Director to review.
- Job Task Analysis (JTA): You will use AI and data from subject matter expert interviews to perform deep dive JTAs. This helps us identify the exact skills required for technician roles in the field.
- Content Synthesis: You will take complex technical info from experts and turn it into structured notes and high level storyboards for the development team.
- AI Workflow Integration: You will use Gemini, ChatGPT, and other LLMs to quickly draft content, summarize long technical manuals, and build initial lesson frameworks.
Instructional Logistics and Technical Support (30%):
- Classroom Procurement: You will research and build detailed shopping lists for technical labs. This includes finding specific PLC components, mechanical trainers, and specialized tools.
- Vendor Coordination: You will vet equipment providers to make sure our training sites are ready and that all hardware is technically compatible.
- Documentation Management: You will keep our design library organized in Google Workspace so that all templates, blueprints, and drafts are easy for the team to find.
Team Collaboration and Innovation (10%):
- Curriculum Development Hand-off: You will support the move from the design phase to the development phase by providing clear and organized outlines to the Curriculum Development Team via an approval process.
- Prompt Engineering: You will constantly look for ways to improve our library of AI prompts to make our curriculum design cycle faster and more accurate.
