POSITION TITLE: IT Support Instructor (Healthcare IT Specialist)

LOCATION:  Houston, Texas

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Per Scholas is seeking an IT Support (Healthcare IT Specialist) instructor to become a member of our Training Team. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, problem-solving individual with strong technical and instructional skills, demonstrates the ability to adapt quickly to a dynamic environment, and maintains a strong sense of accountability. To succeed in this role, candidates must be business-minded within our mission focus and excel in instructional delivery that meets clients’ and learners’ high expectations.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Support instructor-led training that prepares students for entry-level to mid-level careers in IT Support or optionally Healthcare in IT. Responsibilities include daily instruction, assessment administration, attendance, one-on-one tutoring, daily evaluation and monitoring of individual student progress, addressing student violations with students in a consistent manner, and more.
  • Provide students with access to relevant resources for outside learning on technologies and study aids appropriate to the curriculum.
  • Work closely with the team to identify student needs, provide the necessary support, establish individualized plans for student achievement, and participate in regular student-status meetings.
  • Maintain and update Salesforce and/or our LMS with student grades, certification scores, and progress notes.
  • Support and maintain the training curricula, syllabi, lesson plans, and other classroom materials. 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO US:

Instructional Skill Sets

  • 1-3 years of teaching or training experience 
  • Strong technical background; able to grasp and convey highly technical subject matter
  • Ability to respond with clarity to live digital conversations via a digital engagement platform such as Zoom or an in-person training environment
  • Strong communication skills

Required Skill Sets

  • Advanced knowledge of Windows, macOS, and Linux Operating Systems; this includes both end-user and server versions
  • Experience with Virtualization Technologies Type 1 and 2 Hypervisors ( VMware ESXI, VirtualBox, Hyper-V) 
  • Experience with Windows server, AD, DHCP, DNS, NPS, Group Policy, user-profile management, WDS 
  • Proficiency with File systems and Disk management, performance monitoring, and security
  • Experience with supporting hardware and software add, change, move, install, imaging, and upgrade of desktops, printers, scanners, devices, and equipment; ensure optimal performance of the end-user workstations
  • Proficiency with LAN/WAN/VLAN, routing configuration, switching, and TCP/IP + OSI layers
  • Experience working with Desktops, Rack Servers, and other equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.)
  • Proficiency with remote administration and remote administration tools, such as mobile-device management using InTune, Remote Access Tools (RDP), and TeamViewer
  • Experience with providing direct, over-the-phone, or remote troubleshooting of end-user desktop, equipment, application, device communication, and connectivity issues in a timely fashion
  • Thorough understanding of security concepts, models, and standards; experience with implementation in business environments
  • Ability to write content and curriculum related to instructional outcomes
  • Must be able to secure course-relevant certifications (CompTIA or Cisco IT/Network Certifications) 
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, applicable certifications, and coursework to stay current with rapidly evolving technology trends and advancements
  • Healthcare IT Systems Knowledge: Ability to explain and support core health information systems such as EHR (Epic, Cerner), LIS, PACS, and patient-facing technologies.
  • HIPAA & HITECH Compliance: Working knowledge of healthcare privacy and security regulations; ability to teach and apply compliance standards to IT operations.
  • Healthcare Cybersecurity Fundamentals: Proficiency in addressing common threats (e.g., ransomware, phishing), security controls (RBAC, endpoint protection), and incident response procedures.
  • Healthcare Data Governance & Security: Understanding of data classification (PHI, PII, de-identified data) and the role of IT in maintaining secure healthcare data systems.
  • Healthcare Network & Systems Infrastructure: Competence in designing secure clinical network architectures, including device segmentation and secure data flows.
  • Effective Communication with Clinical Staff: Ability to translate technical concepts into clinical language, supporting help desk/call center operations in healthcare settings.

Preferred Skill Sets

  • Current A+ certification (1200 Series)
  • Network+ Certification ( N10-007 or N10-008)  or Cisco equivalent ( CCNA)
  • ServiceNow preferred
  • Strong documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with ITIL implementation in support of the Help Desk
  • Experience using an SLA ticketing system with a customer/consumer service-driven approach
  • Clinical Workflow IT Support: Ability to simulate real-world clinical troubleshooting scenarios, apply proper documentation procedures, and support clinicians in maintaining efficient workflows.
  • EHR Platform Expertise: Hands-on or instructional experience with Epic, Cerner, or other major EHR systems, including interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR).
  • Healthcare Billing & Revenue Cycle Knowledge: Familiarity with billing platforms, claims data (EDI/837), and denial management to support IT workflows in healthcare finance.
  • Healthcare Data Platforms & Analytics: Exposure to modern data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, or similar) for managing and analyzing healthcare data securely.
  • AI in Healthcare IT: Knowledge of AI tools for healthcare analytics, predictive insights, or incident detection in healthcare environments.

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent practical/industry experience). 
  • Strong technical aptitude (Google Sheets/Excel, Slides/PowerPoint, Salesforce, Slack, Zoom, etc.), project management, and organizational skills with detailed follow-through abilities. 
  • Excellent written communication, presentation, and customer service skills.
  • Solid understanding of business needs.
  • Strong evaluation and data management skills.
  • Prior knowledge or background in IT (if minimal, a desire and willingness to learn what’s needed) and a passion for technology is a plus.

Compensation 

For this role specifically, we are targeting a salary range of $60,000 - $65,000, where the difference in salary is typically determined by several factors, including geography in which the selected candidate resides, and alignment with qualifications and experience.
