About the Role:

The Director of Planning – Subscription is responsible for leading the financial, inventory, and strategic planning of the company’s subscription business, inclusive of the core subscription and add-ons businesses. This role owns demand forecasting, inventory and margin management, and long-range strategy to ensure profitable growth while delivering a best-in-class member experience. The Director partners closely with Merchandising, Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Product to align strategy, manage risk, and optimize outcomes across the full subscription ecosystem.

This position reports to the Vice President of Planning and is based in the New York City metropolitan area. Working mostly remote, with Tuesdays onsite (in NYC).

What You’ll Be Doing:

Strategic Planning & Business Ownership
  • Design and lead planning strategy for both the subscription and add-ons businesses, aligned to AOP, long-range plans, and company growth objectives
  • Translate high-level business goals into executable inventory, margin, and demand strategies across multiple revenue streams
  • Identify risks and opportunities across subscription cadence, add-on attach rates, and inventory exposure, proactively recommending course corrections
  • Own scenario planning and trade-off analysis to support decision-making in dynamic environments
Inventory Management
  • Oversee end-to-end inventory planning for subscription programs and add-ons, ensuring optimal in-stock levels while minimizing excess and obsolescence
  • Lead demand forecasting and inventory flow strategies across core boxes, replenishment, and add-on offerings
  • Balance customer experience, warehouse capacity, and cash flow considerations across all subscription-related inventory
  • Drive improvements in inventory efficiency, turns, and utilization
Margin & Financial Management
  • Own margin performance across the subscription and add-ons portfolio, including cost modeling, pricing, promotional levers, and attach-rate economics
  • Partner with Finance to manage budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis
  • Evaluate unit economics at both the program and portfolio level to ensure profitability
  • Influence assortment and purchasing decisions to optimize margin outcomes
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Act as a key thought partner to Merchandising, Marketing, Operations, Product, and Finance teams on both subscription and add-ons strategies
  • Manage and strengthen cross-functional relationships to ensure alignment and execution against shared goals
  • Communicate complex financial, inventory, and performance insights to senior leadership
  • Present business performance, risks, and recommendations to executive stakeholders
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead complex problem solving in ambiguous situations, balancing short-term execution with long-term strategy
  • Identify process gaps and implement scalable planning tools, frameworks, and best practices across subscription and add-ons
  • Use data-driven insights to refine forecasting, inventory flow, and attach-rate performance
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and analytical rigor
People Leadership
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing planning team
  • Set clear expectations, goals, and development plans for direct reports
  • Encourage strategic thinking, curiosity, and cross-functional collaboration

What We Are Looking For:

  • 8–12+ years in planning, finance, merchandising, or related roles
  • Deep expertise in inventory management and demand forecasting within subscription and add-on or ancillary revenue models
  • Strong margin management and financial acumen with end-to-end ownership of profitability
  • Proven ability in strategy design and long-range planning
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills in fast-paced and ambiguous environments
  • Demonstrated success managing cross-functional relationships and influencing without direct authority
  • Advanced analytical and executive communication skills
  • Experience leading and developing high-impact teams
  • Resilient attitude and entrepreneurial spirit

Pay is based on several non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education, skills, and location. IPSY offers a bonus and competitive benefits. Final compensation is determined by experience and skills.

Salary Range:

$130,000 - $190,000 USD
