Resident Engineer II – General Motors
The selected candidate will be employed by E-Mobility Inc, a Phoenix Contact Company.
Job Summary
The Resident Engineer II – GM is responsible for both coordinating and assisting in mechanical and electrical aspects of the development, design, and improvement of vehicle inlet products and solutions and be responsible for quality topics for each program internal and external with suppliers. This position will work independently and as part of a global team, interfacing between Phoenix Contact’s design team in Germany and GM’s design and release team to develop creative solutions based on requirements from specific customers or general market requirements.
Responsibilities
- Ensures collaboration between Phoenix Contact’s design team (Germany) and GM’s design and release team.
- Contributes to the interpretation and qualification of project requirements.
- Represents German engineering team in weekly meetings with OEM customers.
- Provides onsite support to OEM customer on short notice if needed.
- Assists in the development of technical solution concepts and their associated BOMs in accordance with local OEM requirements and global organizational standards (e.g., materials, costing, etc.).
- Creates technical documentation in support of the automotive team as required.
- Collaborates with local and global internal colleagues to prepare, execute, and deliver technical solutions to automotive OEM customers.
- Preferred ability to create rough concepts in 3D for coordination with US OEM customer and German engineering team.
- Sets up data in OEM systems on behalf of German engineering team.
- Drives creation of a drawing master and reviews preliminary drawings.
- Evaluates additional tasks and its coordination.
- Other duties as assigned by one’s Manager.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- 3 (+) years of relevant experience preferred, including experience in a Manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of GM systems and processes preferred.
- Proficiency in mechanical design, including knowledge of one or more of the following: High voltage, automotive connectors, vehicle inlets and/or harnesses.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while performing simultaneous tasks.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft applications, Engineering tools, etc.).
- Preferred CAD skills in Unigraphics (NX) and Teamcenter.
Essential Job Functions
- Must be able to travel by air.
- Must be able to support onsite at OEM plant on short notice.
- Occasional overseas travel for extended periods required.
- Occasional Domestic Travel required.
- Must be eligible to obtain a passport.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
- Regular and on-time attendance.
