The Role
The Director of Category Management at The Honest Company will drive category growth and lead strategic initiatives across multiple product lines, including personal care, baby, and household products. This role is responsible for building a deep understanding of market trends, shopper insights, and retailer-specific needs to influence and expand the category. The Director, Category Management will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Marketing, and Product Development, to develop category plans that align with Honest’s mission and business objectives. This role will be reporting to the VP, Sales Planning & Operations. This role is open to being located in Los Angeles, CA or Minneapolis, MN.
What You’ll Do:
Strategic Leadership and Category Development
- Develop and implement a comprehensive category growth strategy based on market trends, consumer insights, and competitive analysis.
- Oversee category performance metrics, forecasting, and financial analysis to identify areas for growth and optimization.
- Partner with senior leadership to align category plans with Honest’s brand positioning, sustainable business practices, and revenue goals.
Retailer Partnership and Execution
- Cultivate and strengthen partnerships with key retail accounts, including major mass, drug, grocery, and e-commerce partners.
- Lead category reviews and joint business planning sessions to support retail strategies, maximizing shelf space, promotions, and visibility.
- Collaborate with the Sales team to tailor category strategies by retailer, optimizing assortment, placement, and pricing strategies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Team Development
- Manage and mentor a team of category managers and analysts, fostering a culture of innovation, strategic thinking, and performance excellence.
- Partner with Product Development, Marketing, and Operations to align on new product launches and promotional planning.
- Drive effective communication between the category team and other functional areas to support integrated go-to-market initiatives.
Insights and Data-Driven Decision Making
- Utilize consumer data, POS, and syndicated data (e.g., Nielsen, IRI) to build insights that inform category strategies and drive innovation.
- Drive data analytics efforts to optimize assortment, understand shopper behaviors, and monitor competitive activity.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and consumer preferences to anticipate category shifts and growth opportunities.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field; MBA preferred.
- 12+ years of category management, sales, or marketing experience in CPG, preferably with experience in wellness, personal care, or baby categories.
- Proven success in building retailer relationships and executing joint business plans.
- Strong analytical skills with experience leveraging consumer and shopper data to drive category growth.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, with experience in managing and developing high-performing teams.
Compensation
The pay range for this role is $150,000- $180,000. Actual compensation is based on many factors including but not limited to depth of experience, skill level, ability, knowledge, education, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
The total rewards package for this position may also include base, annual incentive plan, benefits, retirement plan, equity, and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
