If you have a good attitude and are willing to roll up your sleeves to get things done, PitchBook is the place for you.

About the Role:

As a member of the Product and Engineering team at PitchBook, you will be part of a team of big thinkers, innovators, and problem solvers who strive to deepen the positive impact we have on our customers and our company every day. We value curiosity and the drive to find better ways of doing things. We thrive on customer empathy, which remains our focus when creating excellent customer experiences through product innovation.

We know that greatness is achieved through collaboration and diverse points of view, so we work closely with partners around the globe. As a team, we assume positive intent in each other’s words and actions, value constructive discussions, and foster a respectful working environment built on integrity, growth, and business value. We invest heavily in our people, who are eager to learn and constantly improve. Join our team and grow with us!

As an Engineering Manager, Software Development in PitchBook’s engineering division, you will lead the Authentication & Identity Stream-Aligned Team (SAT), which owns end-user authentication and system-level authorization across PitchBook products, including the web platform, mobile applications, Excel and PowerPoint add-ins, and the Chrome extension. You will lead a distributed team of backend engineers and SDETs, supported by a technical lead, architect, and product manager.

The Authentication domain is PitchBook’s primary interface to third-party identity providers and Morningstar identity systems. The team’s flagship, multi-year initiative is the migration from legacy credential and SSO infrastructure to Auth0-based Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM). Current work includes credential migration, silent authentication, SAML and Okta SSO connections, consolidation of microsite login flows, multi-factor authentication, session management, and just-in-time user provisioning. Because Authentication is a Tier-1, always-on service on the critical path for every customer and internal login, this role balances secure feature delivery with reliability, high availability, operational excellence, and scalable identity infrastructure.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Own engineering outcomes for the Authentication & Identity SAT, including capacity, delivery velocity, quality, reliability, scalability, and technical health
  • Align engineering execution with the Authentication domain strategy and roadmap, including the Auth0 and SSO migration, and translate priorities into achievable delivery plans
  • Lead, coach, and grow engineers and technical leads through regular feedback, career development, performance management, and compensation input
  • Build and evolve the team through hiring, onboarding, succession planning, and thoughtful management of the team’s skill and seniority mix
  • Own short- and long-term capacity and capability planning; identify constraints early and drive mitigation through hiring, reprioritization, internal movement, or support from enabling teams
  • Ensure effective execution across the software development lifecycle, including refinement, design, estimation, implementation, testing, deployment, production support, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with the SAT Architect, Product Manager, Platform, Architecture, and Security teams on solution design, technical standards, and secure handling of identity and authentication data
  • Be accountable for the stability, performance, availability, and overall quality of the Authentication Service and related identity services, including observability, service-level objectives, incident reduction, and operational readiness
  • Evolve engineering practices across code review, CI/CD, automated testing, incident response, documentation, and the responsible use of Generative AI tools
  • Build a healthy, inclusive, and high-performing team culture grounded in psychological safety, accountability, collaboration, candor, and fun
  • Partner closely with Product, the Core Admin Platform teams, and other domains to manage dependencies, contribute to domain-level planning, support company values, and participate in broader company initiatives

Skills and Qualifications:

Required skills:

  • BS. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, including delivery of secure, highly available backend services in a distributed architecture
  • 2+ years in an engineering leadership role with direct people-management responsibilities, including performance reviews, coaching, and career development
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience designing or coding Java services using Spring Framework or Spring Boot
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future, and able to work on site in Seattle 4 days per week

Desired skills:

  • Experience leading teams through complex, multi-phase technical initiatives from planning through production launch and operational ownership
  • Ability to work effectively with Product, Architecture, Platform, Security, and other engineering teams across locations and time zones
  • Strong understanding of software delivery, testing, observability, incident management, scalability, resiliency, and recoverability
  • Experience with identity and access management, CIAM, authentication, authorization, or other security-sensitive systems
  • Experience with Auth0, Okta, SAML SSO, Keycloak, multi-factor authentication, session management, or just-in-time user provisioning
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Docker, GitOps, REST APIs, OpenAPI, and cloud-scale service delivery
  • Experience managing Tier-1 or other business-critical services with demanding availability and reliability requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical context to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working with distributed teams and managing dependencies across multiple product and platform groups
  • Experience using Generative AI tools responsibly to improve engineering productivity, documentation, quality, and delivery efficiency
  • Currently residing in the Greater Seattle area

At the heart of our company is a belief in the power of in-person collaboration. Being together in the office fuels our creativity, strengthens our connections, and drives the innovation that sets us apart. Our culture is built on spontaneous moments—those hallway conversations, whiteboard brainstorms, and shared celebrations in each of our global offices—that simply can’t be replicated remotely. This role is expected to be in the office 5 days a week.

The job conditions for this position are in a standard office setting. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Limited corporate travel may be required to remote offices or other business meetings and events.

We are excited to get to know you and your background. Concerned that you might not meet every requirement? We encourage you to still apply as you might be the right candidate for the role or other roles at PitchBook.

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
