FP&A Manager

Seattle, Washington, United States

At PitchBook, a Morningstar company, we are always looking forward. We continue to innovate, evolve, and invest in ourselves to bring out the best in everyone. We’re deeply collaborative and thrive on the excitement, energy, and fun that reverberates throughout the company.

Our extensive learning programs and mentorship opportunities help us create a culture of curiosity that pushes us to always find new solutions and better ways of doing things. The combination of a rapidly evolving industry and our high ambitions means there’s going to be some ambiguity along the way, but we excel when we challenge ourselves. We’re willing to take risks, fail fast, and do it all over again in the pursuit of excellence.

If you have a good attitude and are willing to roll up your sleeves to get things done, PitchBook is the place for you.

About the Role:

Finance owns everything “money” at PitchBook — accounting, quote-to-cash, payroll, compliance, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic analysis — supporting a fast-paced, growing company with actionable insights into financial health and business performance. We’re a fun, energetic team that treats employees like customers and customers as king. We aim to be trusted partners to the business by helping leaders understand performance, make better decisions, and allocate resources toward the highest-impact opportunities.

The FP&A Manager builds, improves, and scales PitchBook’s planning and analysis capabilities. This role partners with leaders across the business to turn data, ambiguity, and strategic priorities into clear decisions, with a particular focus on forecasting quality, resource allocation, investment prioritization, and operational impact.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on finance leader and player-coach who can strengthen core FP&A processes while also pushing the function forward through automation, AI-enabled workflows, and more scalable ways of delivering insights. This person role models PitchBook’s values, especially “Embrace and Drive Change” and “Excellence is a State of Mind,” and raises the bar for analytical rigor, communication, and business partnership across the company.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Drive the annual budgeting, long-range planning, and rolling forecast cycles; manage timelines, deliverables, assumptions, and cross-functional inputs to a high bar of quality
  • Own and improve forecast processes across bookings, revenue, operating expenses, headcount, and key business drivers
  • Run scenario planning, sensitivity analyses, and best/base/worst case modeling to illuminate trade-offs and inform leadership decisions
  • Support monthly close and BvA reviews with crisp root-cause analysis, clear explanations of what changed, and recommended actions
  • Strengthen driver-based forecasting approaches and automate recurring forecast refreshes where feasible
  • Ensure planning outputs are not just accurate, but useful for decision-making
  • Serve as a trusted partner to senior leaders by framing choices, clarifying assumptions, and connecting financial outcomes to strategy, operations, and business performance
  • Translate incomplete, noisy, or ambiguous data into actionable insights that guide strategic and operational decisions
  • Create clear, executive-ready narratives that explain what changed, why it changed, what it means, and what decisions leadership should consider
  • Move beyond reporting results to proactively identifying risks, opportunities, and recommended actions
  • Lead investment evaluations, business cases, ROI analysis, and portfolio trade-off discussions across functions
  • Build strong relationships with business partners while maintaining the independence and judgment required to challenge assumptions and improve decisions
  • Build and maintain frameworks to evaluate headcount, operating expense, and investment allocation across PitchBook
  • Partner with functional leaders to connect resource requests to business outcomes, capacity needs, productivity metrics, and strategic priorities
  • Support executive-level trade-off decisions by translating hiring plans, productivity assumptions, and investment cases into clear financial and operational impact
  • Help leadership understand where PitchBook is under-resourced, over-resourced, or misaligned relative to strategic priorities
  • Track post-investment performance to assess whether resource decisions are delivering expected outcomes
  • Identify opportunities to reallocate resources toward higher-impact areas of the business
  • Own and improve core SaaS and operating metrics, including ARR/MRR, NRR/GRR, churn, bookings, revenue, CAC/LTV, productivity, and other relevant business drivers
  • Maintain clear metric definitions, monitor trends, and partner with BI and business teams to course correct when data quality or interpretation issues arise
  • Define, instrument, and operationalize KPIs for business partners
  • Build monitoring and dashboard programs that enable self-service while maintaining consistency and trust in the underlying data
  • Drive data quality and single-source-of-truth standards across financial and operational datasets
  • Ensure reporting is clear, scalable, and decision-oriented
  • Identify and implement opportunities to use AI, LLMs, agentic workflows, and automation to improve FP&A processes, including forecast refreshes, variance analysis, management reporting, scenario planning, and self-service business insights
  • Partner with BI, Data, Engineering, and Finance leadership to responsibly deploy automation and AI-enabled tools while maintaining strong controls, data quality, and governance
  • Automate and streamline recurring forecasting, reporting, and analysis workflows
  • Improve model hygiene, standardized templates, process documentation, and workflow orchestration
  • Act as a power user and FP&A point person across planning tools, BI applications, and data integrations
  • Identify and implement tooling enhancements that improve the speed, quality, and scalability of FP&A outputs
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within Finance by challenging legacy processes and finding better ways to deliver insight
  • Role model PitchBook values: Customers are King, Excellence is a State of Mind, Embrace and Drive Change, Focus on Focus, and Make it Fun
  • Support broader company initiatives and projects
  • Be a multiplier for collaboration across Finance and the broader organization
  • Demonstrate curiosity, humility, ownership, and a willingness to challenge the status quo
  • Help create an FP&A function that is high-performing, business-oriented, and enjoyable to work with

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Finance, FP&A, Strategic Finance, Corporate Finance, or a related analytical role
  • Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, monthly close support, and business performance analysis
  • Experience building and maintaining driver-based financial models; three-statement modeling experience preferred
  • Strong resource allocation, headcount planning, capacity planning, investment prioritization, or business case experience
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills and comfort working with large datasets
  • Comfort with financial and operational SQL a plus
  • Proven track record as a trusted partner to senior leadership, with the ability to influence decisions, challenge assumptions, and drive projects cross-functionally to completion
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to turn complex analysis into clear, concise, and executive-ready narratives
  • Strong business judgment and able to distinguish between analysis that is interesting and analysis that changes a decision
  • Demonstrated ability to improve FP&A scale through systems, automation, AI/LLM-enabled workflows, data visualization, or process redesign
  • Experience with FP&A, BI, CRM, ERP, and workflow/automation tools, such as Adaptive, Anaplan, Tableau, Power BI, Salesforce, NetSuite, or similar platforms
  • Curiosity and hands-on experience with AI/LLM tools strongly preferred
  • High standards for accuracy, analytical rigor, communication, and follow-through

This role is expected to be in the office 5 days a week.

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
