Director, Data Analytics and Engineering

The Director of Data Analytics and Engineering is a strategic and operational leader responsible for driving Point C’s data vision, architecture, and insights delivery. This role oversees the design, development, and implementation of scalable data platforms and advanced analytics solutions that enable data-driven decision-making across the business. The Director leads cross-functional teams of data engineers, analysts, and scientists, ensuring the adoption of best practices in data governance, infrastructure, and innovation. They collaborate closely with stakeholders across technology, operations, and the executive team to align data initiatives with strategic priorities, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and data literacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the architecture, buildout, and deployment of enterprise data infrastructure, including database structures, data warehouse solutions, and governance frameworks.
- Define and implement the organization’s overall data strategy.
- Lead the design and development of data assets, including normalization/de-normalization, pipeline development, storage, and retention strategies.
- Ensure data solutions support both current business needs and long-term strategic goals.
- Promote data-informed decision-making across the company by bridging the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Stay current on emerging technologies in data analytics, cloud computing, and big data to maintain a competitive edge.
- Establish and enforce standards for data quality, accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
- Develop and implement policies for data access, usage, security, and lifecycle management.
- Manage, mentor, and support professional development of Data Analytics and Engineering team members.
- Define team structure and hiring plans, set KPIs, conduct performance evaluations, and lead training initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with applicable company policies and regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
- Provide technical oversight to ensure robust platform design, security, and performance across systems including data integrations, lakehouses, pipelines, and BI tools.
- Lead technical initiatives including ETL/ELT processes, real-time/on-demand data streaming, and modernization projects.
- Oversee timely and accurate delivery of dashboards, reports, analytics, and insights to internal teams and business leaders.
- Perform other duties and participate in projects as assigned by the direct supervisor.
Qualifications
- Advanced SQL development skills, with a focus on T-SQL; ability to write complex queries with joins, perform data sanitization, and optimize performance.
- Strong understanding of DAX; MDX is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Power Pivot and advanced data modeling features.
- Experience with BI platforms, especially Power BI; ability to work within semantic layers and develop self-service dashboards.
- Solid grasp of ETL/ELT methodologies; MuleSoft experience is a plus.
- Expert-level understanding of data warehousing concepts and data modeling for both relational and dimensional data structures.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure and Redshift; experience with Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory is a plus.
- Exposure to big data technologies; Spark is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field with a minimum of 6 years of experience. Master’s or PhD in a related field may substitute for experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present updates, discuss technical architecture, and explain solutions clearly to stakeholders.
- Self-starter with strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to independently own and resolve issues.
- Demonstrated experience leading at least three large-scale data architecture projects.
- Experience with healthcare data formats and familiarity with payer and provider systems, PBMs, and claims adjudication processes.
