
Senior Manager, Platform Engineering, Employee Communications

The Opportunity
The Platform Engineering team are responsible for the underlying platform, integrations and operational data that powers our Employee Communication products. The Senior Manager role will own and lead these applications and Engineering Teams.
The Senior Manager will lead the multiple software engineering teams in Platform Engineering.
The role involves working closely with Product Managers and senior technical staff to deliver product priorities, manage technical debt, and advance the overarching architectural vision. The Senior Manager, Platform Engineering will be instrumental in ensuring the delivery of high-quality software while cultivating a culture of continuous improvement and learning within the teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the applications and technology plan for the applications within Platform Engineering ensuring that the applications can support the EC business needs.
- Manage multiple teams of engineers in Software Development, through the leadership of Engineering Managers
- Drive the adoption of modern development methodologies and tools including AI tools to drive development efficiency.
- Monitor initiative progress, proactively addressing roadblocks and risks to meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Own and oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of product software initiatives, ensuring they align with business goals.
- Working with Product Managers or Principal and Senior developers to manage and prioritize tasks to reduce technical debt throughout project phases working towards an architectural vision.
- Ensure joined up delivery and management of commitments across engineering teams.
- Serve as point of escalation with Engineering team providing options and solutions to problems working with the Engineering Director.
- Own delivery within Engineering representing the wider team commitments in wider forums.
- Adopting lessons learned from retrospectives and experiments.
- Ensuring sound development discipline and code quality.
- Collaborating with the team, management, and other teams to develop a culture of continuous improvement (process and technical).
- Set and evaluate goals, conduct performance reviews, conduct regular 1-1 reviews, etc. and well as identifying skill gaps and training needs
- Lead the staffing strategy for team working with Engineering Director to meet wider company objectives while supporting Product Delivery.

- Experience providing insights and driving adoption of relevant emerging trends (e.g. pair programming, lightning talks, conferences, design sessions, etc.).
- Proven ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities.
- Proven background in software engineering with at least 5 years hands on experience, preferably using Java.
- 7+ years technical leadership experience managing software development teams.
- Experience in driving & delivering technical initiatives in partnership with Product Owners and/or Senior Engineers.
- Great communication skills to work with the wider team and department.
- Experience coaching and mentoring team members and fostering a culture of learning and innovation within the team.

- Lead an overall plan of work activities, connecting the work of the team with the vision, goals and success of the organization.
- Ensure optimal delivery approach leveraging the wider team capabilities to deliver organizational priorities.
- Lead a culture of continuous improvement, agility, and resilience
- As a member of the EC Engineering Leadership team establish key objectives/metrics to measure performance and ensure reports have the information, tools, and resources necessary to meet their goals.
- Identify and clear blockers, communicating changes in priority or focus in a timely manner
- Provide regular and continuous feedback concerning performance and apply appropriate performance interventions when needed
- Drive engagement across team ensuring they feel supported, heard, and are given the appropriate level of autonomy
- Facilitate development conversations, encouraging reports to identify career goals and areas for growth, collaborating to establish development plans and encourage actions in support of their growth.
