The Opportunity

Product Engineering at Postman is a multi-team organization responsible for building and evolving core product experiences that enable API collaboration across the platform. Serving more than 40 million users, our teams work across the API lifecycle including development, testing, prototyping, discovery, distribution, and change management to deliver reliable, intuitive, and scalable products.

Product Engineering teams own tier-0 and tier-1 business-critical systems, collectively handling approximately 21 million requests daily, with scale and complexity continuing to grow. The work directly impacts end-user experience, platform reliability, and key business outcomes such as Monthly Active Users, self-serve revenue, and sales-assisted revenue.

We are looking for a Senior Engineer for Product Engineering teams who is passionate about building high-quality products at scale. In this role, you will take end-to-end ownership of key initiatives, working closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional engineering partners to solve real user problems and deliver impactful product outcomes.

You will contribute strongly to technical design and hands-on implementation, bringing a product mindset to engineering decisions. This includes building scalable and reliable systems, improving performance and quality, and continuously raising the bar on user experience. You will also help shape technical direction within your team while balancing execution with long-term maintainability.

What You’ll Do

  • Shape the Future of APIs: Contribute to the development of cutting-edge APIs and products in collaboration with a dynamic, cross-functional team that includes Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers specializing in Support, Quality, Security, and Platform.
  • Innovate Through Prototypes: Rapidly construct functional prototypes to address both internal and external use-cases, driving our product’s evolution.
  • Lead & Mentor: Offer technical leadership and mentorship to your fellow engineers, sharing best practices and elevating our collective expertise.
  • Shape Our Path: Be an integral contributor to roadmap planning, coordinating with all stakeholders to align our products with strategic goals.
  • Own Systems Architecting: Lead the architecting and design of collection systems, partnering with stakeholders to ensure robust functionality and strategic integration.
  • Enhance System Maturity: Take ownership of the maturation of existing systems, defining initiatives to enhance functionality, reliability, and performance.
  • Drive Architectural Evolution: Identify and champion initiatives that drive architectural improvement and innovation.

About You

  • Cloud and Distributed Systems Expert: You bring experience with cloud computing and distributed systems, having worked on customer-facing systems at scale.
  • Data Management Maestro: Your knowledge of data management fundamentals and data storage principles is solid.
  • Experienced Builder: With at least 5+ years of experience building applications in high-level programming languages - especially Javascript, Python, or Ruby. We primarily code in Javascript.
  • Versatile Developer: A fair understanding of front-end technologies, networking, analytics at a fundamental level, and proficiency in Backend engineering characterize your skill set.
  • Passionate Technologist: You're driven by a passion for utilizing various tools and technologies to devise end-to-end solutions.
  • Code Craftsperson: Your code is testable, maintainable, and easy to understand by others.
  • Communicator: You can demystify technical concepts, effectively sharing knowledge with product managers, designers, support, and other engineers.
  • Curious Learner: An insatiable curiosity moves you to understand how things work and to constantly learn, absorb, and share new knowledge.

Nice To Have

  • Platform Experience: Building platform level components/systems for products which can be used across multiple other products.
  • K8s Knowledge: Familiarity or experience with Kubernetes is beneficial.
  • Innovative Creator: A proven record of building products from scratch is advantageous.
  • JS & Web Fundamentals Guru: Past experience with Javascript, Node.js, and a strong understanding of web fundamentals will stand you in good stead.
