
Printmaker
Powerhouse Arts is a not-for-profit organization committed to creative expression. Housed in a purpose-built-facility in Brooklyn, the organization hosts an extended network of art and fabrication professionals and educators who work together to co-create and share artistic practices vital to the well-being of artists and the communities to which they serve. Our new facilities house fabrication services, production services, production spaces, and member workshops for artisans. In 2025, PHA expects to welcome in thousands of patrons as the building becomes a center for art and performance. Over the next few years, PHA will see growth and expansion in all areas of business and an increased focus on revenue generation.
The Printmaker will be a key member of the printshop team. This position will report to the Printshop Director and work closely with printmaking staff and artist clients. This person will be responsible for executing print projects and participating in shop organizing as needed.
Responsibilities include:
Project Execution and Management
- Manual screen printing by hand and semi-automatic screen press printing
- Support Director and Senior Printmakers in preparing, operating, and maintaining silkscreen printing press
- Color match ink with the support of the Director, Manager, and Senior Printmakers
- Conduct routine quality checks for any print imperfections during each run
- Maintain accurate record of all completed work and meet acceptable productivity, quality, service,e and safety goals
- Reclaim and expose screens
- Assist the Print Director with administrative project management duties
- Assist in maintaining and tracking project plans and schedules, change orders and expenditures for client projects
- Support Director and Senior Printmakers in documenting progress and archiving close-out forms and photos for each project
- Understand project schedules developed by the Director and execute projects accordingly
- Support client intake process and client communication
Project Execution and Management
- Collaborate with team members to maintain the shop and equipment and repair equipment as needed.
- Pitch in on general shop management as needed, including answering the phone, checking mail, leading shop tours, and organizing projects
- Learn and follow health and safety practices and protocols.
Other
- Respond to requests from the Marketing team for images, project information, and other content as requested for project features on the website and newsletters.
- Present project updates at all-staff meetings
- Collaborate with Powerhouse staff members and attend meetings as needed
- Help supervise participants in the Printshop’s intern program in collaboration with the Programs department
Qualifications:

- Passion for the arts and a commitment to the mission of a non-profit arts organization.
- Able to lift, carry, push or pull weights up to 30 lbs; stand for long stretches of time
- Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Flexible, creative, organized, thorough, and resourceful
- High level of competency in screen printing and digital output
- Comfortable using and/or learning Photoshop, Illustrator, Wastach (or comparable screen-printing RIP software) G Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Mac, and Box platforms
- Comfortable using and/or learning communication and project management tools such as Asana, Zoom, and Slack
- Comfortable learning equipment and facilities repair and maintenance
- Comfortable working with young adults in an instructional capacity
Compensation & Benefits: The hourly range is $27-$32, commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, an employer-sponsored retirement plan, generous paid vacation, and a Citibike membership.
