
Music Licensing Supervisor - (Contractor)

This role is available for remote or onsite candidates as a six month contract position.
The person we’re looking for:
PUBG Studios Madison is seeking a passionate and experienced Music Licensing Supervisor for a contractor role managing the music licensing and talent partnerships for our video game titles. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music clearance for video games, negotiation with artists and rights holders, and a keen sense for music that enhances gameplay and narrative. This role also manages partnerships with celebrities and music industry talent to create authentic, culturally resonant experiences within the game.
This position reports directly to the Producer and receives direction from the studio's Creative Director.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, source, and secure rights for commercial music used across all game titles.
- Clear master and publishing rights, securing legal approval for global distribution across platforms.
- Collaborate closely with legal and production teams to manage music rights documentation and compliance.
- Discover and manage collaborations with prominent music artists, producers, and celebrities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for agencies, managers, and label representatives.
- Coordinate in-game appearances, likeness rights usage, and co-branding opportunities.
- Negotiate fees, terms, and usage rights for music and talent partnerships, balancing creative goals and budget constraints.
- Finalize contracts in accordance with in-house legal standards and IP usage guidelines.
- Manage payment schedules, deliverables, and license renewal timelines.
- Work with composers, sound designers, narrative leads, and game directors to ensure that music aligns with the tone, setting, and emotional arc of the game.
- Curate soundtracks and playlists that reflect gameplay themes.
- Participate in music spotting sessions and provide creative feedback on direction.
- Maintain a centralized database of all licensed music, contracts, cue sheets, and related metadata..
- Support marketing campaigns by assisting with music use in trailers and promotional content.
- Stay updated on current music trends, licensing laws, and emerging artists that align with the brand.
- Build and maintain industry connections to generate new opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in music supervision, licensing, or entertainment law (some experience in games required).
- Strong knowledge of music rights, copyright law, and royalty structures (e.g., PROs, sync, mechanical rights).
- Proven track record negotiating with labels, publishers, and talent agents for video games.
- Strong industry network within the music and entertainment sectors.
- Passion for video games and the cultural intersection between music and interactive media.
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with budget management and project tracking tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Wwise, FMOD, or other game audio middleware.
- Background in music production or musicology.
- Experience with celebrity likeness licensing or cross-promotional campaigns.
- Understanding of regional/global licensing nuances and restrictions.
