The person we’re looking for:
PUBG Madison is seeking an experienced and talented Character Artist to help create high quality and detailed characters and heads. You will work closely with different disciplines to help define the look and aesthetic feel of characters including heads.
A deep passion for gameplay that both looks and feels great is necessary to help create best in class character art. If you have experience making photorealistic characters and want to get in the ground floor of this awesome effort sounds exciting, we'd love to see you apply! This role reports to the Lead of Player Art.
Responsibilities:
- Develop game-ready assets, primarily focusing on character heads and hair, with additional player body and gear creation when necessary
- Leverage deep expertise in character modeling tailored for AAA game development
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with other departments to create a cohesive and compelling visual product
- Implement, test and error check models in Unreal engine
- Help define and improve DCC and game engine animation pipeline
- Coordinate with producers and leads to create, track, and manage tasks accurately
- Receive and apply feedback while also providing constructive feedback to team members
- Create documentation, share knowledge, and mentor less-senior artists
Qualifications:
- 5+ years professional game development experience with at least 1 shipped title
- Expert-level knowledge of industry-standard software, tools, and pipelines (e.g., 3DS Max, Maya, ZBrush, Substance Suite, Marvelous Designer)
- Strong proficiency in first- and third-person asset creation
- A portfolio showcasing realistic characters and heads in-game.
- Proven experience creating clean, efficient models with accurate UVs and textures
- Skilled in PBR texture creation and understanding material processes
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide insightful feedback and collaborate effective with other disciplines
- In-depth understanding of character design, including silhouette, form, function, and purpose
- Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize tasks, and stay self-motivated
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Unreal Engine technology
- Familiarity with the MetaHuman pipeline
- Experience working with scan data for heads or assets
- Additional skills in material creation, concepting, etc.
- Knowledge of rigging or technical art
