Pure Storage is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical and thermal design of modular, chassis-based storage systems. This role is responsible for end-to-end ownership of mechanical components, including system-level thermal performance and manufacturability.
Responsibilities:
- Contributing to mechanical projects with a task-based, cross functional schedule
- Contribute to developing thermal architectures and specifications for system mechanical assemblies.
- Ability to perform thermal simulations (CFD, FEA) and validate models through testing and measurement.
- Contributing to design reviews for prototype builds and DFX, outside design firms, and supplier deliverables
- Collaborate with ODM/JDM partner development teams
- Work seamlessly with internal cross functional teams (HW, SW, Test, Quality, Certification & Operations) to meet program deliverables and quality criteria according to program milestones
- Ability to manage mechanical tooling NRE budgets and schedules
- Contribute to Proto & Pilot builds to align with project schedules
- Review Allegro Board files for mechanical DFM’s
- Internal Designs can include ( drive carriers, chassis concepts, PCIe card carriers )
- Must have aspects of design ( CAD, Tolerance analysis, Thermal tradeoffs, DFX, Sheet Metal, Fan Selection, Heat Sink Selection, Material selection, etc … )
- Ability to travel internationally and domestically as needed (historically less than 5%)
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING TO THIS ROLE...
- BS or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5-10 years in a related product development role, contributing to taking system level products from concept to market
- Proficient in thermal and fluid simulation tools such as FloTHERM, ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar.
- Hands-on experience with testing and instrumentation (thermocouples, IR cameras, data acquisition systems).
- Proficient understanding of thermal principles of cooling electronics equipment (thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics)
- Experience in product validation (Thermal validation, shock/drop, environmental testing, etc.)
- Demonstrated cross functional project management, leadership, and mentoring skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to foster strong cross-functional teamwork
- Proven track record in delivering high quality, high volume products
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Ability to work autonomously
- 3D CAD skills, including experience with ProE/Creo Parametric or equivalent
- Hands-on experience with detail sheetmetal/plastic/die-cast/extrusion design, prototyping method
- Experience in DVT test plan development
- Experience in working with ODM/JDM partners
- We are primarily an in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work from the Santa Clara, CA office in compliance with Pure’s policies, unless you are on PTO, or work travel, or other approved leave.
The annual base salary range is: $145,000 – $200,000. Salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location. For positions open to candidates in multiple geographical locations, the base salary range is reflective of the labor market across the applicable locations.
This role may be eligible for incentive pay and/or equity.
