Intern – Software Development – Quantum Computer Calibration Management System
Summary
QuEra invites ambitious students to join our team for a summer internship, contributing to a crucial calibration management system for our leading-edge quantum computer. This role is a unique opportunity for students at the intersection of computer science and quantum technology, providing practical experience in an advanced technological environment.
The successful applicant will work alongside our Quantum Controls Team in developing a system which monitors the health and status of a number of calibrated machine settings, detects anomalies, stale calibrations, and error states, and executes a decision-making matrix to take actions to recover the system to a working, calibrated state.
No prior experience in quantum computing is necessary, making this an excellent chance to step into the field.
Responsibilities
- Assist in building a calibration management system that monitors machine outputs, evaluates calibration states, and ensures metrics comply with specified standards.
- Contribute to automating calibration processes to maintain the quantum computer's calibrated state, including supporting calibration initiation as needed.
- Help develop mechanisms for the system's recovery from out-of-specification states.
- Participate in monitoring the health and status of each calibrated parameter to aid in assessing system performance and stability.
- Work under one-on-one guidance of a mentor as part of a multidisciplinary team, including software developers, quantum physicists, and engineers, to integrate the calibration system with our existing quantum computing infrastructure seamlessly.
Qualifications
- Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Computer Science, Applied Physics, or related field, accompanied with strong programming skills.
- Proficiency in Python, with an ability to write clean, maintainable code.
- An eagerness to learn about quantum computing principles and technologies, although no prior experience or coursework in quantum computing required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and passion for teamwork.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience analyzing and fitting scientific data, particularly data generated by scientific instruments, to extract meaningful insights and optimize system performance.
- Demonstrated experience contributing to substantial software development projects with multiple contributors, such as established open-source projects or team-based academic or commercial software development.
On-site internship. There is no relocation offered for this role.
