THE ROLE

Software Development Engineer -1 (Data Engineer)

We’re looking for an SDE-1 Data Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will help build the data infrastructure, pipelines, and services that power analytics, engineering, and data-science use cases across the organization. You will work closely with senior engineers to translate business needs into scalable data solutions, maintain high coding standards, and ensure reliable data availability for downstream consumers. Success in this role means demonstrating strong technical curiosity, writing clean and efficient code, and taking ownership of assigned modules while continuously learning and improving. This position plays a vital role in strengthening our data foundation and supporting Quince’s broader mission of offering exceptional quality at incredible value.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain data pipelines, tools, and datasets under the guidance of senior engineers=
• Build reliable, scalable components on cloud platforms for ingestion, transformation, and data delivery
• Collaborate with engineering, analytics, and product teams to understand functional requirements and convert them into technical tasks
• Contribute to low-level design and write clean, high-quality, well-tested code
• Take ownership of assigned tasks/modules and ensure timely, high-quality execution
• Assist in optimizing pipeline performance, improving latency, and enhancing overall data reliability
• Learn, evaluate, and integrate modern big data tools and frameworks
• Support operational excellence by participating in monitoring, debugging, and issue resolution
• Maintain strong documentation and adhere to coding, data-quality, and architectural standards
• Primarily hands-on role focused on programming, execution, and continuous improvement

Qualifications: 

• 0–1 years of experience in data engineering, backend engineering, or related technical fields
• Experience or academic exposure to big data technologies (Hadoop/Spark/Hive/Presto)
• Familiarity with message queues (Kafka, Kinesis, RabbitMQ)
• Proficiency in at least one programming language — Python, Java, or Scala
• Basic understanding of REST services and data ingestion/extraction patterns
• Good understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL/ELT fundamentals
• Strong SQL skills (joins, aggregations, window functions, CTEs, etc.)
• Understanding of distributed computing principles
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and comfort working with large datasets
• High ownership, eagerness to learn, and ability to work in ambiguous, fast-paced environments
• Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on reliability, accuracy, and data quality.

Preferred

• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
• Experience with MPP data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift)
• Hands-on experience with Apache Spark or Kafka
• Familiarity with NoSQL stores (Redis, DynamoDB, Memcached)
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, or containerization (Docker)
• Interest in data architectures, performance optimization, and large-scale distributed systems.
