Title: Kubernetes Engineer

Location: Remote (US)

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week in support of 24x7x365 operations

Weekday Shift Availability: 5:00 PM to 12:30 AM ET and/or 12:30 AM to 8:00 AM ET

Weekend Shift Availability: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM ET, 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM ET, and/or 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET

Additional Requirements: Availability for holiday coverage as needed. Vacation requests should be submitted in advance to ensure adequate staffing and coverage.

Clearance: Not required, Eligible for Secret Clearance

Position Overview:

The Kubernetes Engineer will support Air Force Platform One and Air Mobility Command in ensuring that we maintain high uptime for their chat operations. Air Mobility Command requires 24x7x365 readiness due to their global requirements so this position will require working outside of regular business hours (east coast time). The Kubernetes Engineer will design, builds, and runs elastic, cost-effective, resilient, robust, and secure architectures in the cloud using modern approaches like service-mesh and loosely coupled design. Manages different Kubernetes providers (AmazonEKS and Fargate, Azure KS and Google KE) or run your own. Designs and implements Network connectivity, Provisioning Strategy Assess and Design RBAC needs to Ensure Cloud foundation is strong and with needed compliance requirements. Maintains, configures, and monitors containers using Infrastructure as Code principles in Development, Test, and Live environments. Designs containerized solutions for relational/non-relational databases, data auditing, caching, and performance. Works with other Architects on Security, Data protection, and Failover Failback strategies. Implements Continuous Integration, Delivery, and Deployment using different CI/CD tools by container registries. Experience in Technical Customer Service, Customer Management, and experience in escalations may be required.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist the 24x7x365 team in ensuring that Mattermost is operational at all times
  • Work on innovative R&D tasks while there are no active support requests
  • Possesses and applies expertise on multiple complex tasks
  • Tasks may be broad in nature, requiring originality and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks.
  • Operate with appreciable latitude in developing methodology and presenting solutions to problems.
  • Contributes to deliverables and perform metrics where applicable
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the following: Kubernetes, Istio, GitOps, Custo Kubernetes Operators, Custom Helm charts, Custom Admission Controllers, Custom CRDs, Custom Controllers.
  • Extensive knowledge of Linux and network. Extensive experience with Kubernetes and containers. Understand each component of Kubernetes control plane.
  • Understand Istio. Have security and compliance knowledge for Kubernetes.
  • Experience in building automation and configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible, Terraform).
  • Knowledge of Cloud (AWS, Azure, oci, et.). Worked with common infrastructure tools like Docker, Terraform, and Helm.
  • Experience working with a product that has end-users.
  • Have a software development background.
  • Have a CKA Certification.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation for implementations.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance

 

Skills/Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following: Go, React, Docker
  • Preferred: Gitlab, AWS, Kubernetes, SQL (Postgres or MySQL)
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance
  • Demonstrated knowledge (mastery preferred) in the following:
  • DoD Enterprise DevSecOps Ref Design
  • Kubernetes expert
  • Istio expert 
  • GitOps
  • Custom Helm charts
  • Custom Admission Controllers
  • Custom Kubernetes Operators
  • Custom CRDs
  • Custom Controllers
