Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Radiant Industries is an El Segundo, CA-based startup developing Kaleidos, a portable, containerized nuclear microreactor. Portable nuclear power with rapid deploy capability can replace diesel generators used today to provide critical asset support for hospitals, datacenters, and military bases or to power microgrids at remote sites. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development utilizes modern software engineering to rapidly achieve safe, factory-constructable microreactors leveraging existing, well-qualified materials. Radiant is on a fast track to demonstrate the first fueled operation of a new commercial nuclear reactor design, just two years from now. 

Senior Manufacturing Engineer 
Radiant is seeking the first dedicated and highly motivated senior manufacturing engineer responsible for the end-to-end manufacturing process of critical subcomponents, assemblies,and systems for the Kaleidos microreactor. You will drive, define, and refine best manufacturing practices and processes that set the stage for mass-producing reactors. You will ensure reliable, safe, quality, and delivery of the Kaleidos demonstration unit that will test in 2026 at the Idaho National Lab and be instrumental to testing the first new reactor design in over 50 years. You will work closely with design engineers to innovate on the production of complex mechanisms and structures critical to our microreactor technology. 

This role is based on-site full-time in El Segundo, CA. 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Responsible for the manufacturing and inspection process for critical components and assemblies within the Kaleidos microreactor. 
  • Partner with design engineers to develop innovative production methods for complex mechanisms and structures. 
  • Develop, qualify, and refine manufacturing processes to meet all design and business requirements including safety, quality, efficiency, and delivery. 
  • Develop and execute manufacturing specifications and fabrication instructions. 
  • Manage manufacturing bill-of-materials (mBOM) for components and assemblies. 
  • Identify and develop appropriate suppliers for component sourcing and fabrication. 
  • Identify, plan, and execute capital equipment, machine, and layout upgrades to meet evolving production requirements. 
  • Drive initiatives for continuous improvement in manufacturing processes and product quality. 

Required Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 
  • 5+ years of experience with manufacturing of mechanical products in a production environment, preferably in high-tech or energy sectors. 

Desired Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Experience with machining and ancillary operations such as milling, turning, grinding, EDM of materials. 
  • Experience with interpreting engineering drawings and models, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T). 
  • Experience with inspection systems including manual gauges and coordinate-measuring machine (CMM) 
  • Experience with non-destructive testing/non-destructive evaluation (e.g. fluorescent penetrant inspection, radiography, eddy current, etc.) 
  • Experience with custom machine design; electromechanical systems, motors, actuators, linear rails, bearings, lifting/rigging, etc. 
  • Experience with design of multi-component assemblies in CAD (Solidworks or similar). 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with design and operations teams.
