What this role is about:
RapidSOS is revolutionizing emergency response by connecting data from 700M+ devices directly to 911. We are seeking a Software Engineer II to drive the development of our AI-powered analytical tools, focusing on transforming massive datasets into actionable intelligence for the public safety domain.

In this role, you will be the technical lead for the frontend implementation of our AI-driven analysis platform. Your mission is to build highly performant, intuitive interfaces that allow users to navigate and interpret complex AI-synthesized data. While you will operate across the full stack, you will be the primary owner of the user interface and data visualization architecture for this product. If you thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and want to build backend systems that make a meaningful difference where every second matters, this is your opportunity to help shape the future of public safety technology.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop with AI: Build quality software by identifying the best sources of intelligence for our applications. You will work with LLMs and design frontend systems for robustness, ensuring continuous improvement in how AI insights are presented.
  • Leverage Operational Data: Utilize RapidSOS’s vast datasets to build tools that identify performance patterns, track agent metrics, and generate insights that improve overall agency outcomes..
  • Own the Analytical UI: Lead the frontend lifecycle for our AI intelligence tools, designing scalable patterns to visualize complex relationships, trends, and AI-generated metrics. Lead strategic architectural decisions, help drive alignment, and optimize applications for performance, scalability, and accessibility
  • Work Across the Stack: Leverage AI tooling to build components across the stack, ensuring seamless integration between backend data logic and the user-facing analytical environment. Identify opportunities to assess and enhance current applications, including refactoring code and upgrading technologies used. Use best-in-class software development practices (unit tests, integration tests, performance tests, monitoring, detailed functional specification and test plans) to ensure RapidSOS' products remain highly reliable and fault tolerant.
  • Collaborate & Innovate: Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate AI solutions into the platform. Stay updated on AI advancements to assess their applicability to our mission of enhancing public safety. Actively participate in code reviews and standups, sharing knowledge, championing best practices, and contributing to the continuous improvement of team processes

What we’re looking for in our ideal candidate:

  • Technical Proficiency: 3+ years of experience delivering end-to-end projects with a primary focus on modern frontend architecture with React & TypeScript and a strong proficiency in Python for backend.
  • AI Implementation: Proven experience developing and deploying AI-driven solutions. You are comfortable working with LLMs, managing their performance, and designing intuitive interfaces to display multimodal AI outputs (text, audio, and metrics).
  • Product-Minded Engineering: A passion for creating analytical products that provide meaningful insights. You don't just build components; you build tools that solve problems, with a focus on data visualization and dashboarding for operational metrics.
  • Adaptability: A versatile engineer who can tackle a wide range of challenges, even in unfamiliar tech stacks, and who views AI as a tool to accelerate development outside their primary comfort zone.
  • Ownership & Communication: A proactive self-starter with a strong sense of ownership. You possess excellent communication skills and can translate complex technical data concepts into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Collaborative Spirit: Eager to work cross-functionally with other teams across Data, Engineering, and Product to foster open communication and ensure technical alignment across the platform.
  • Travel & On-call: Ability and willingness to travel for internal team gatherings a few days per quarter and participate in a weekly rotational on-call schedule.

Nice-to-have experience (but not required!):

  • Experience with working on mission-critical or 24/7 operational products, ensuring system reliability, uptime, and availability
  • Experience with SQL and interacting with big data platforms (eg. Databricks). You should be comfortable navigating data pipelines to ensure the frontend accurately reflects complex underlying datasets.

What we offer:

  • The chance to work with a passionate team on solving one of the largest challenges globally
  • Competitive salary and benefits and equity participation
  • A dynamic, flexible and fun start-up work environment with a highly talented team

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
