The Impact You’ll Make

As a Senior Scientist in Proteomics at Recursion, you will play a pivotal role in achieving the preclinical research objectives in our Translational Biology department. Your expertise in mass spectrometry and proteomics will contribute significantly to our mission of decoding biology to radically improve lives. We are building a proteomics platform to accelerate our ability to validate targets, progress preclinical programs toward clinical trials, and elucidate drug mechanisms of action. 

You will be accountable for the performance and delivery of the mass spectrometry proteomics instruments and will work closely with a small group of biologists, chemists, data scientists, and data/software engineers. You will also collaborate extensively with broader groups of data scientists, chemists, engineers and biologists throughout the organization and externally to advance milestones and provide insights to grow Recursion’s mass spectrometry applications and capabilities. Key attributes to this role include a bold, execution-oriented attitude and passion for deploying rigorous science to discover medicines.

In this role, you will:

• Conduct proteomics experiments in a laboratory setting - e.g. preparing peptide samples from various biological specimens for activity-based protein profiling and other advanced chemical proteomic approaches. Maintaining accurate and detailed laboratory records and up-to-date electronic notebooks is essential.
• Operate and maintain Bruker tims-TOF mass spectrometer in a connected, semi-automated, and high-throughput laboratory environment where continuity and consistency are crucial factors in data quality. This includes contributing to the day-to-day operations of the proteomics group, including equipment maintenance, LC-MS/MS reagent preparation, and inventory management.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver and interpret proteomic results in the context of specimen and experimental metadata. This includes the analysis  of experimental data, interpretation of results, and presentation of findings at internal meetings.
• Mentor junior scientists and contribute to the development of their technical skills.
• Represent Proteomics at Recursion both internally and externally in your areas of expertise and knowledge.

The Team You’ll Join 

Reporting to the Senior Director of Biology, you will work in an interdisciplinary modern biochemical proteomics group centered on machine learning and inference-based discovery from first principles. This group is a bold and agile collective of drug discovery and machine learning scientists deeply focused on the singular goal of bringing new therapeutics to patients at an accelerated pace. 

The Experience You’ll Need

• PhD in Biochemistry or related discipline, a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a post-doc or industry setting, preferably running a Bruker tims-TOF mass spectrometer. 
• Experience working with Spectronaut software for data analysis and/or an EvoSep One LC is a plus.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a proteomics laboratory processing mammalian specimens (tissue culture, plasma, biopsies, etc.) and extensive and independent experience troubleshooting sample preparation, injection, and instrument performance.
• Proven track record of leading high-value projects with little oversight.
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
• Ability to think strategically and make daily decisions that impact a one-year horizon.

• Developing: $122,000
• Skilled: $134,000
• Expert: $148,000
