Principal Software Engineer I

What is The Role
The Core Analysis team at Elastic plays a foundational role within the Security organization by building and maintaining the Entity Store - a centralized system for storing and managing information about entities such as hosts, users, and other critical objects. The entity store serves key workflows across detection, investigation, and response. The team is responsible for ensuring high-quality, performant access to entity data, enabling richer context, correlation, and insights throughout the security platform.
As a Principal Engineer on the Core Analysis team, you will play a key role in shaping the architecture and the overall experience of the Entity Store. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers across teams, as well as with product and design partners, to build a resilient, high-scale system used by both internal teams and global customers. Your deep technical expertise and eagerness to solve complex problems will be instrumental in bridging backend infrastructure with user-facing capabilities - helping to deliver impactful products that security practitioners around the world rely on every day.
What you will be doing:
- Drive architectural decisions across systems and teams, helping shape the long-term technical direction of our products
- Design and build the Entity Store, an infrastructure that powers entity-based analytics across the security solution
- Develop scalable, high-performance systems within the Elastic ecosystem and across cloud-native environments
- Own the performance, observability, and operational health of our services in production
- Write production-grade code in TypeScript
- Mentor and guide other engineers, fostering technical excellence and collaboration across the team
- Maintain and enhance Cloudbeat and its integrations, ensuring efficiency and smooth operation
What you bring along:
- A strong track record of building large-scale, complex software systems
- Ability to operate with a high level of autonomy and initiative
- Proven ability to influence technical direction across teams or product lines
- A proactive engineer who takes initiative, asks the right questions, and looks for ways to improve both the product and the process
- Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work in a globally distributed, async-first team
- Programming experience in TypeScript/Node.js
Bonus points:
- Familiarity with Kibana or Elasticsearch
- Contributions to open source
- Experience programming in Go
- Background working on Cloud-native products
