Ready to help us build the Intelligent System of Action?
Job Overview:
As an Associate Product Manager (APM) for Internal Tools, you will help define and deliver products that power Relay's internal operations and business scalability. This role focuses on the critical systems developed by our Product Engineering team: our contract management and billing system (Cirrus) and our account management and configuration front-end (HQ).
You will act as the crucial bridge between our engineering team and our internal users, primarily the Sales and Customer Success (CS) teams. This is a hands-on role designed for someone who thrives at the intersection of technology, customer empathy, and business impact. You will be heavily focused on leveraging AI and automation to support our internal users and streamline administrative workflows. This role will be based full time in person in our Raleigh, NC headquarters.
Our Product Philosophy:
At Relay, Product Management is rarely about having all the answers; it is about having the most complete context, maintaining discipline, and acting as the steady hand that guides our teams forward. In this role, you will be expected to:
- Provide Context, Not Just Tasks: You will not simply hand over a list of internal stakeholder requests. You will deliver well-framed, clearly articulated problems to Engineering, ensuring they know not just what we are building, but the clear rationale behind why it matters right now.
- Own the Stakeholder Friction: If issues arise with Sales or CS, you will absorb and resolve them. You will understand the technical constraints of Cirrus and HQ well enough to solve issues directly with stakeholders, rather than bringing raw, unfiltered issues to the engineering team.
- Be a Calming, Decisive Presence: You will act as a buffer against competing demands, ensuring you do not bring chaos, panic, or unnecessary urgency to the engineering team.
- Contribute to Global Optimization: You will synthesize business objectives and technical constraints and surface your recommendations to product leadership so they can globally optimize and prioritize across all engineering work streams, cutting through the organizational noise to determine the highest and best use of the team's time.
What You Will Do:
Product Strategy & Delivery
- Drive the product roadmap for Cirrus and HQ, collaborating with Engineering to design viable, usable products and ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
- Write detailed user stories for both new features and system enhancements.
- Participate actively in sprint planning and stand-ups, ensuring clarity and momentum throughout the delivery process.
Internal User Support & Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Sales and CS, guiding them in entering complex orders and contracts into Cirrus, and troubleshooting issues they run into within HQ.
- Document, analyze, and prioritize feedback from internal teams through structured meetings and review of feedback channels.
- Represent the voice of the internal customer in sprint planning and product reviews to ensure that business and user goals remain aligned.
- Drive product adoption and internal enablement by developing clear Release Notes, training materials, and alignment sessions with CS and Sales.
AI & Automation Integration
- Proactively identify opportunities to leverage AI/ML to enhance internal tools, derive deeper system insights, and optimize administrative workflows.
- Design and implement automation strategies that remove manual data entry burdens from the Sales and CS teams, allowing them to focus on high-value customer interactions.
What You Will Bring to This Role:
- 0-3 years of experience in Product Management, preferably within an enterprise software or SaaS environment.
- A Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Computer Science, or a related technical or business field.
- A strong blend of business and technical acumen, with the ability to engage meaningfully and add value in discussions encompassing both technology and business strategy.
- Curiosity about emerging technologies: A keen interest in staying abreast of cutting-edge technologies, particularly within the AI and automation space, and identifying how they can create new value for users.
- A passion for entrepreneurship with the ability to thrive and react proactively to changing business needs within a dynamic, high-growth startup environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across internal teams and stakeholders.
