Principal Model-Based Systems Engineer

We are seeking Principal Model-Based Systems Engineer to champion the organizational transformation of Rondo engineering into a capable MBSE enterprise.  

 

What You Will Do (key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to):  

  • Lead and own the definition, development, and implementation of MBSE strategy, process, and methodology.
  • Create MBSE roadmap and plan to achieve short- and long-term strategic objectives.
  • Foster an MBSE culture and mindset across all engineering disciplines.
  • Ensure product development adheres to agile MBSE processes, methods, and best practices.
  • Perform requirements elicitation, analysis, and verification and validation, while working with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet requirements, using model-based tools to guide effective design reviews.
  • Capture concept of operations, mode/state behavior, and ensure they trace to requirements, models and verification methods.  
  • Drive end-to-end traceability and impact analysis from stakeholder needs, lessons learned, ConOps and Modes of Operations to system, subsystem, and component requirements.  
  • Lead and own the development of structural, behavioral, parameter, etc. models to form the authoritative source of truth for the system, with traceability through a digital thread to requirements, coverage and change impact analysis, verification and validation.
  • Establish interface management within the model. Generate and control Interface Control Documents (ICDs). Automate interface checks where practical. Run interface audits ahead of reviews.  
  • Integrate risk & safety analysis in the model. Model hazards, FMEA, controls, and mitigations. Link risks to requirements, functions, interfaces, and verification, drive model-based safety assurance. 

 

What You Will Bring:  

  • 10+ years in systems engineering with 5+ years leading MBSE on complex, multidisciplinary systems (aerospace, defense, energy, automotive, robotics, medical, or equivalent).
  • Expert SysML modeling with one or more of: Cameo/MagicDraw/Catia Magic, IBM Rhapsody, Sparx Enterprise Architect, Capella (Arcadia). Ability to define profiles, stereotypes, validation rules, and model organization.
  • Proven requirements & verification leadership with RM tools such as DOORS Next or Jama, including change/impact analysis.  
  • Handson interface management and ICD development within modeling tools; experience preventing/triaging interface defects across teams.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety standards (IEC 61508 or equivalent) and experience with risk management (safety, security, etc.) modeling (FMEA/FTA/FHA/STPA) tied to architecture and requirements in a model.  
  • Experience establishing and/or working in compliance with top-down system engineering processes (ISO 15288, INCOSE SE/MBCM, CMMI, etc.) and MBSE methods (OOSEM, MagicGrid, etc.) throughout the product life cycle
  • Strong communication, able to teach, influence, and lead across functional design teams. 

 

Bonus Points! 

  • Experience with model-based product line engineering and/or product variant management.
  • Experience facilitating tool interoperability and/or component supplier data exchange using Requirement Interchange Format (ReqIF)
  • INCOSE SEP Certification

This role is preferred to be on-site Alameda, California though strong candidates from different geographies open to travel will be considered. The estimated annual salary range for a candidate in the Bay Area for this role is between $225,000 and $275,000, plus equity in an early-stage, rapidly scaling global company. Additionally, you would be eligible for Rondo's excellent benefits listed above. Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidates' diverse sets of skill levels, experience, and geographic locations.
