POSITION SUMMARY
As a Patient Sitter, you will work closely with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to ensure the safety and emotional well-being of residents who require additional observation and support beyond routine care. You will provide continuous monitoring, companionship, and a calming presence to help prevent injury and promote a safe, supportive environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Monitor resident behavior and symptoms; communicate concerns to nursing and care teams.
• Provide companionship and emotional support to residents experiencing distress, disorientation, or isolation.
• Maintain constant observation of residents at risk to prevent falls and injuries.
• Support residents exhibiting behaviors such as wandering, aggression, or inappropriate social interactions.
• Escort residents to appointments or activities, ensuring safety and comfort.
• Assist with meal setup by cutting food or offering finger foods, without feeding residents.
• Set up supplies for personal care routines without performing hands-on care.
• Maintain a clean and calming environment; change bed linens when the bed is unoccupied.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with residents while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
• Monitor multiple residents as assigned and remain vigilant at all times.
• Attend required in-service trainings and follow all safety and infection control protocols.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB DETAILS
• Pay Rate: $20.50 per hour
• Hours: Full-Time 40 hours per week
• Shift Schedule: PM 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM
• Days Off: Varies
• Working Days: Varies
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One (1) year of experience in long-term care or a related healthcare setting preferred.
• Kind, calm, and empathetic demeanor.
• Ability to build rapport with residents, including those with behavioral health needs.
• Cultural sensitivity, including awareness of Jewish traditions and diverse populations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Bilingual abilities preferred (e.g., English/Spanish, Cantonese, or Russian).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to stand, walk, and remain attentive for extended periods.
• Ability to respond quickly to resident needs and safety concerns.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
• Ability to occasionally assist with light environmental tasks within resident areas.
