2nd Shift Yard Hustler I.
Position: Yard Hustler I.
Shift: 2:30PM - 11:00PM.
What's the Short Version?
The Yard Hostler I is responsible for, understands, and abides by the rules for the Customs Trade Partnership against Terrorism (C-TPAT), seven point inspections, view, verify, tug and twist (V.V.T.T.) inspections, and follows internal procedures to accept deliveries. They are responsible for using an industrial tractor to move trailers within the yard to facilitate shipping and receiving functions. Responsibilities include hooking and unhooking trailers, moving trailers in and out of doors, securing and sealing outbound trailer doors, cleaning and refueling designated vehicles, inspecting vehicles for potential maintenance needs, and maintaining orderliness, communication, and safety in the yard. When not driving, employees in this role will assist in all aspects of the cross dock/receiving process, or in production when needed.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Safely operate the yard truck and/or box truck around the yard.
- Operate yard tractor safely to remove loaded trailers from the docks and stage empty trailers by priority in the appropriate door.
- Neatly organize and document product/trailer locations.
- Coordinate with the warehouse team to manage the trailer pool effectively in accordance with the dock schedule.
- Greet and provide direction to incoming carriers; give dock assignments.
- Conduct frequent yard checks; proactively monitor and communicate trailer pool status.
- Enforce yard safety guidelines with carriers; provide yard safety suggestions.
- Perform pre/post operators’ checklists; keep equipment clean.
- Load, unload, move, stack and stage product by following standard operating procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned

What Are We Looking For?
- High School Diploma Preferred
- 1-3 years driving experience
- Experience operating a tractor-trailer is preferred
- Active Drivers License
- Ability to read, write and have sufficient ability to identify colors, sizes, quantity, label and SKU information.
- Basic math skills in counting and quantity required.
- Able to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
- Requires working tractor/trailer components, including bending and cranking landing gear as well as climbing in and out of cabs and sitting for extended periods of time.
- Excellent organization skills; strong problem solving and demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize daily responsibilities.
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations
- Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions etc.)
- Demonstrates ability to follow directions and change priorities or job duties as business needs require; support or rotate to other production functions as needed.
- Ability to learn Internal Operating System and operate Radio Frequency (RF) unit.
- Able to work both independently and within a team and work well with diverse groups from multiple organizations.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Comprehend verbal and written instructions.
- Willing to work outside in the elements (heat/cold/rain/etc.)
- Must complete and maintain equipment certification in compliance with OSHA requirements.
- Overtime as required, which may include weekends.
What Should You Expect?
DC Warehouse (Yard Hostler): While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 60 pounds. The employee operates powered equipment requiring use of both hands and feet as well as full range of motion of the neck, head and back. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, grasp and perform repetitive hand, wrist and arm motions. The employee is frequently required to climb stairs, kneel/squat, bend and carry. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to wear a headset covering one or both ears. Employee will be required to wear Personal protective equipment such as a Protective harness while operating equipment. Basic English literacy is required for operation of machines and necessary daily paperwork. Work environment is moderately noisy. The employee is occasionally required to work near conveyor systems. There is exposure to dust and changes in weather conditions. Work is performed outdoors and indoors under typical warehouse conditions. Potential hazards exist with regard to machinery such as other cars, trucks, forklifts, pallet jacks, mechanized systems, etc. Work environment is hectic and fast-paced. The employee is regularly exposed to ambient lighting and can be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold including climates consistent with outside weather conditions
