Field Engineering Manager, Robotics

About This Role:
As the Engineering Manager for the Robotics Field Engineering team, you will lead multiple hardware and software initiatives. Scale operates a wide variety of robots for data collection, and this role will be crucial to leading hardware development for optimized data collection, as well as software development for streamlined robot control and efficient data collection. You will be leading a large team of roboticsists, and help manage critical vendor relationships for both robotic platforms, sensors, embedded systems, and core software. You will set the pace for robotic development, and help drive collaboration across the entire business unit.
Responsibilities:
- Lead roadmapping, development and strategy for our robot-adjacent tooling and robotic data collection platforms.
- Manage a diverse team of roboticists from PhDs to industry experts working on a wide range of data collection setups
- Create industry-leading solutions to deliver measurable improvements to customers in data quality, cost, and speed
- Build and mentor a high-performing technical team
- Maintain strong relationships with partners, key customers, and internal stakeholders
- 7+ years of professional experience and 3+ years managing teams
- 5+ years of experience in robotics
- Deep expertise in robotics data. You have spent time hands-on with robots, sensors, embedded systems and understand the dynamics of data collection, management, and hardware operation
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple hardware+software initiatives
- Track record of shipping excellent products and operating effectively in dynamic environments
- Proven leadership capabilities with a track record of managing high-performing cross-functional teams
Compensation packages at Scale for eligible roles include base salary, equity, and benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position, determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, interview performance, and relevant education or training. Scale employees in eligible roles are also granted equity based compensation, subject to Board of Director approval. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process, and confirm whether the hired role will be eligible for equity grant. The base salary range for this full-time position in the location of San Francisco is:
$180,000 - $225,000 USD
