Summer Boost Overview
Funded by a grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, Summer Boost is designed to support rising 1st through 9th grade students to accelerate their academic progress in ELA and math while providing engaging enrichment opportunities. School in the Square’s Summer Boost program will serve approximately 30% of our overall student population and is an opportunity for our students to continue to grow over the summer.
Responsibilities
Summer Boost Program Directors are required to attend training on Monday, May 19th for three hours and work the entirety of the summer session from July 7 - August 6th. Daily work hours are 8:15 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
- Drive rigorous instruction and create a culture of academic ownership across the school, ensuring all ambitious goals are met by the end of the summer session
- Ensure that high quality curriculum and pedagogy is implemented across classrooms
- Build and maintain an welcoming and caring school culture that is strengths-based, warm, and deeply committed to student success
- Ensure diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment systems and practices are implemented effectively in order to accelerate student outcomes
- Manage, coach, and train a team of six teachers
- Create a culture among staff of collaboration, teamwork, feedback, reflection, and continuous improvement
- Foster strong relationships with students, families, and staff to ensure collective investment in student success
- Partner with organizations to successfully coordinate and facilitate afternoon enrichment programs
Qualifications
- Experience coordinating programs with proven results
- A strategic, solutions-focused thinker with strong communication and planning skills
- A strong relationship builder and collaborator
- Adept at studying data in order to drive instructional practices
- Able to lead restorative practices, a strong believer in anti-racist education, culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, and trauma-informed practices
- Bachelor degree required
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
- Certified as a New York State School Administrator preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
Compensation
The salary for this position is $14,000. This part-time role is not benefits-eligible; however, current S2 staff members’ benefits will continue through the summer as usual.
