About the Role

As a Senior Accounting & Tax Specialist, you will contribute to critical accounting and tax operations while driving process improvements and supporting company growth. You will be a key member of the Accounting Team, ensuring accurate financial reporting, timely tax filings, and scalable infrastructure.

What Your Success Will Look Like

  • Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes by preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and tax regulations.
  • Prepare audit workpapers and assist with audit processes.
  • Support integration efforts related to acquisitions.
  • File recurring monthly and quarterly tax returns and other government filings.
  • Prepare annual tax workpapers and collaborate with third-party tax preparers to complete federal and state tax returns.
  • Assist with various tax-related projects and calculations, including research and development (R&D) tax credits, tax forecasting, tax research, and planning.
  • Participate in the implementation of accounting and tax systems, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate a service-oriented approach when collaborating with internal teams and external partners.

Who You Are And What You Bring

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration (BBA), or Economics.
    • Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent international certification.
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of accounting experience in a growth-stage company, publicly traded company, or Big Four public accounting firm.
    • Proven track record of upselling and growing client accounts.
    • Proven ability to manage client relationships, understand their needs, and deliver results.
    • Experience working with cross-functional teams to execute client strategies.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
    • Broad U.S. tax background, with hands-on experience in tax filings.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical tax guidance.
    • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
    • Experience with sales tax and income tax provisions is a plus.
  • Tools:  
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Experience with tax software such as Avalara, Vertex, or similar platforms.
    • Proficient in accounting software (Sage Intacct experience is a plus).

Compensation  

We acknowledge that states have passed legislation promoting pay transparency. As a national employer, Scorpion has made the decision to post our expected pay rate or pay range (as applicable) in all our job postings, regardless of geographic location.

  • The base salary range is $95,000 (entry-level) - $110,000 (highly experienced), exclusive of fringe benefits. If you are hired at Scorpion, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience. Additionally, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the total salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth. 
  • The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary bonuses or commissions.
