Legal Innovation and Contracts Manager
About Semgrep
Our mission is to make world-class software security available to everyone. This means building program analysis tools that are open source, easy to use, powerful, and fast. It also means building a team with security expertise and a passion for great developer experiences. Most of all, it means working with honesty and respect in a diverse community of dreamers and builders. We’ve redefined static analysis tooling by committing to all of these, and turned our project, Semgrep, into an essential safeguard for code at Snowflake, Dropbox, and more.
About the Role
We are seeking a Legal Innovation & Contracts Manager to lead innovation in legal operations, own the contract intake and management process, and triage agreements. You will serve as the first line of review for incoming contracts (NDAs, MSAs, data privacy, vendor/customer, partner agreements) using playbooks before escalating to legal counsel. Beyond triage, you will architect and optimize systems, build workflow integrations, and experiment with AI-based agents to automate repetitive contract tasks.
This is not a traditional back-office role. Reporting to our Chief Operations Officer, you will be at the front lines of contract operations, helping us define and implement best practices ensuring the business moves quickly and efficiently. At the same time, you’ll have the opportunity to experiment with AI and automation, shaping the future of how legal and business teams collaborate. If you thrive on building systems, streamlining complexity, and pushing the envelope with new technology, this role is for you.
You will be a key partner to Sales, Finance, Legal, Product, and Ops, removing friction from deal flow, enabling speed, and safeguarding risk.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as first-line contract triage, reviewing inbound contracts against approved playbooks and routing escalations.
- Operate and refine the contract intake, tracking, and fulfillment workflow, ensuring visibility and momentum.
- Configure, manage, and scale the CLM platform, including integrations with Salesforce, Slack, and other internal systems.
- Collaborate with the Head of Legal to maintain, enhance, and evolve template libraries, clause libraries, and playbooks.
- Design, prototype, and deploy AI / automation tools or agents (e.g. NDA auto-review, risk flag detection, redline suggestions) to reduce manual work.
- Partner cross-functionally to reduce bottlenecks, improve turnaround, and ensure contract compliance.
- Build dashboards, metrics, and reporting (e.g. volume, cycle times, bottleneck points) to measure performance and surface improvements.
- Continuously scan for process improvements, technology enhancements, and automation opportunities to elevate contract operations.
You’re Ideal for this role if you have
- 5+ years of experience in contracts triage and negotiation using playbooks (no requirement for full legal judgment on novel risks).
- Proven experience in contracts operations, legal operations, commercial operations, or a related field with a strong emphasis on contracts.
- Hands-on experience managing and scaling a CLM system, with demonstrated integration experience (e.g. Salesforce, Slack, ERP).
- Exposure to or strong interest in AI / machine learning / automation for workflow or document review.
- Strong process orientation, project management skills, and the ability to drive clarity in ambiguous settings.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management — able to influence across teams.
- Collaborative, solutions-oriented approach - help the teams get to “yes”.
Nice to Have
- Experience building or deploying AI contract review tools (NDA automation, clause extraction, risk scoring).
- Background in high-growth SaaS, cybersecurity, or other fast-paced tech environments.
- Technical aptitude to prototype or configure workflow automation (Zapier, Workato, custom scripting).
- Paralegal experience (not required, but helpful).
- Proficient in common tools: word, g-suite, Slack, Notion.
