Senior Technical Learning Experience Designer
About the role
As a Senior Technical Learning Experience Designer, you’ll shape the strategy of learning experience design at Sigma. In your day-to-day, you'll develop and leverage deep expertise in Sigma’s data analytics platform—spanning business intelligence, data apps, and AI use cases—to deliver impactful, technical learning experiences for our customers. As a key member of a growing team, you'll take ownership of defining effective customer learning journeys, implement scalable delivery processes, experiment with new training formats, and contribute to Sigma's broader enablement strategy. This role is 75% learning design and strategy, 25% customer-facing live instruction and training delivery.
What you will be doing:
- Become a subject matter expert (SME) on Sigma’s platform. You'll be a power user of Sigma and test new features yourself in order to keep learning experiences up to date.
- Develop and apply your understanding of the unique knowledge requirements of a variety of customer technical personas such as data analysts, analytics engineers, data architects, and administrators, and translate that understanding into effective learning materials and experiences
- Balance strategy and execution in your day-to-day. Your day could include meeting with stakeholders to evangelize our offerings and present data on their impact, mapping new customer journeys and designing educational paths to match, writing content for a new course, and delivering a virtual webinar.
- Design, develop, and maintain new instructional content for adult learners across multiple formats: live instructor-led sessions (virtual and in-person), hands-on technical labs, interactive e-learning courses, short-form instructional video, and assessment and certification content.
- Update existing educational content owned by others by providing feedback, suggesting new topics, and recommending how to align the content with updated Sigma platform capabilities.
- Work closely with a cross-functional team of technical instructors, technical writers, customer success architects, and instructional designers to align content built by different departments into coherent and effective learning paths for multiple customer personas.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, customer success, support, and marketing teams to ensure educational content represents our recommended best practices for feature use, addresses top pain points, and remains relevant to evolving customer needs.
- Personally facilitate some customer training and workshops, gathering feedback to continuously improve curriculum and delivery.
- Support education operations and special projects, including registration tools, training surveys, and event coordination.
- Track and report on metrics (e.g., learner satisfaction, engagement, follow-up adoption, support reduction) to demonstrate the effectiveness and impact of educational content.
- Evaluate and integrate learning technologies and tools that optimize the customer's learning journey.
Qualifications we need:
- 5-7 years of experience as an instructional designer, technical curriculum developer, technical instructor, or learning experience designer for highly technical products.
- A track record of creating educational content that drives measurable engagement, product adoption, and customer value.
- Proven ability to research customer needs and use cases and translate into priorities for curriculum development
- Strong background in cloud data warehouse platforms, with demonstrated experience working with at least one of the following: Snowflake, Databricks, Google BigQuery, or Amazon Redshift, etc.
- Expertise building BI dashboards with at least one business intelligence platform: Sigma, Tableau, Power BI, Looker, etc.
Proficiency with SQL.
- Exceptional verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Strong presentation, training, and group facilitation skills; familiar and competent with audience engagement techniques appropriate for all types of learners.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and effective learning objectives, curriculum plans, and assessments.
- Skilled in building curriculum grounded in adult learning theory, with structured learning paths and hands-on exercises.
- Demonstrated change leadership and influence skills to drive adoption of learning design best practices.
- Experience using training analytics, surveys, and learner feedback to improve content.
- Curiosity and drive to become a Sigma product SME and continually learn the product as it evolves and new features are released.
Highly desirable skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in instructional design, information systems, education technology, computer science, or a related field.
- Previous experience with Sigma.
- Experience creating learning experiences for data applications, AI features for enterprise software, or integrations.
- Experience working in a fast-paced SaaS startup environment.
- Certification in adult learning, instructional design, or e-learning development.
Portfolio requirements
- Examples and excerpts of learning experiences you were personally responsible for creating that demonstrate your ability to teach a technically complex SaaS application to a customer audience.
