We are seeking a Product Marketing Manager for the API team at SmartBear. SmartBear' offers comprehensive API lifecycle management platform that unifies API design, documentation, testing, and monitoring in one integrated solution. Centered around industry-leading tools including Swagger Editor, SwaggerHub Explore, Developer Portal, and Stoplight Studio, API solutions serve thousands of organizations worldwide, from open-source communities to Fortune 500 enterprises, helping them accelerate API development and improve developer experience.

In this role, you will be responsible for driving the strategic transition from open source to commercial products, crafting compelling value propositions for API-first organizations, and developing educational content that demonstrates APIHUB's impact on developer productivity and API governance. As a key contributor to Swagger’s continued growth, you will help establish market positioning in the competitive API management landscape, drive adoption across developer and enterprise segments, and shape the future of API design and documentation excellence.

You will collaborate closely with Product Management, Engineering, Developer Relations, Sales, and Partner teams to bring APIHUB's vision to market. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of open source and commercial API tooling while solving real-world challenges that impact development teams and API strategies globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Launch Excellence: Lead cross-functional launches for API platform features, Swagger design capabilities, portal enhancements, and Stoplight integrations that drive measurable adoption and engagement
  • Open Source to Commercial Strategy: Develop and execute go-to-market strategies that effectively transition open-source users to commercial offerings, creating clear upgrade paths and value demonstrations
  • Positioning & Messaging: Define platform positioning and messaging that resonates with API developers, DevOps engineers, technical writers, and API strategy decision-makers across the entire API lifecycle
  • Sales Enablement: Partner with sales and enablement teams to develop effective messaging, competitive battlecards, ROI calculators, and technical sales tools specifically focused on API design-to-deployment workflows
  • Content Development: Create comprehensive technical marketing content including API design best practices, developer portal optimization guides, and executive-level content emphasizing API governance ROI and developer experience improvements
  • Metrics & Impact: Define and track key business metrics including open-source conversion rates, developer portal engagement, API documentation quality improvements, and customer time-to-value
  • Customer Storytelling: Build and deliver a robust pipeline of customer success stories showcasing API design transformation, improved developer experience, and measurable business outcomes across different industries and API maturity levels
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work effectively across SmartBear with engineering, developer relations, marketing, sales, enablement, and partner teams to ensure cohesive API platform messaging

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 6+ years of professional marketing experience, preferably in B2B technology with focus on developer tools or API technologies
  • Deep understanding of API design methodologies, OpenAPI specifications, developer portal best practices, and API governance with ability to communicate complex API concepts to both technical and business audiences
  • Experience with open source to commercial product transitions, including freemium models, community engagement, and conversion optimization strategies
  • Proven track record of building and executing cross-functional marketing programs from concept to launch in developer-focused or API-adjacent markets
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to translate API business value for executive audiences
  • Experience using data and analytics to measure developer engagement, conversion funnels, and optimize marketing performance in technical product environments

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience marketing API management platforms, developer tools, documentation solutions, or open-source commercial products with demonstrated success in developer community engagement
  • Background in software development, API design, technical writing, or related technical fields with hands-on experience using API design tools like Swagger, OpenAPI, or Stoplight
  • Experience with competitive positioning and competitive intelligence in the API management, developer tools, or DevOps markets
  • Track record of successful product launches in competitive developer tools or API platform markets, particularly involving open-source components
  • Technical aptitude with ability to understand and communicate complex API design patterns, documentation strategies, and developer experience optimization
  • Experience with developer advocacy programs, technical case study development, and developer-focused ROI messaging that bridges technical value and business outcomes
  • Strategic thinking combined with hands-on execution capabilities in fast-moving technical product environments
  • Familiarity with API ecosystem trends, microservices architectures, and the evolving landscape of API-first development methodologies
