 Senior Product Marketing Manager

About the Role

SmartBear is seeking a Senior Product Marketing Manager to lead go-to-market strategy, positioning, and revenue impact for our API design and governance portfolio, including Swagger Studio, Portal, Explore, and Stoplight.

This role owns not only the narrative, but also measurable pipeline contribution and growth outcomes for how API teams design, standardize, publish, and govern APIs at scale. You will operate at the intersection of Product, Growth, Sales, and Developer Experience, shaping how SmartBear defines and monetizes the API-first lifecycle.

You will bring strong technical acumen and hands-on experience with APIs, enabling you to engage credibly with engineers, architects, and platform teams while translating technical value into business impact. This is a senior individual contributor role with high visibility and direct accountability for pipeline influence.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Strategy and Positioning

  • Own end-to-end product marketing strategy for Swagger Studio, Portal, Explore, and Stoplight as a cohesive API design and governance portfolio.
  • Define clear positioning, messaging frameworks, and differentiated value propositions across technical personas and API maturity stages.
  • Articulate how API design, documentation, discovery, and governance drive downstream outcomes across testing, security, reliability, and delivery velocity.
  • Establish strong competitive differentiation against competitors, open-source tooling, and emerging API lifecycle vendors.

Pipeline Ownership and Growth Partnership

  • Own pipeline contribution goals for the API design and governance portfolio, in close partnership with Growth Marketing.
  • Co-develop and execute integrated demand programs, including campaigns, trials, content, and product-led motions, to drive qualified pipeline and expansion.
  • Define target segments, ICPs, and use cases to inform Growth investment and prioritization.
  • Partner with Revenue Operations to track performance, attribution, and impact across the funnel.
  • Continuously optimize messaging, offers, and campaigns based on pipeline performance and conversion data.

Go-to-Market Execution

  • Lead product launches, feature rollouts, and lifecycle GTM programs from beta through GA, with clear pipeline and adoption goals.
  • Partner with Product Management to influence roadmap priorities using customer insight, competitive intelligence, and revenue impact.
  • Translate technically complex capabilities into compelling, outcome-driven narratives for both technical and economic buyers.
  • Ensure consistency and technical accuracy across website content, in-product messaging, documentation, and campaign assets.

Sales and Field Enablement

  • Build high-impact enablement assets including pitch decks, demos, competitive battlecards, technical talk tracks, and objection handling.
  • Enable Sales and Sales Engineering to position API design and governance value effectively in mid-market and enterprise deals.
  • Support strategic opportunities with tailored messaging for platform teams, architects, and engineering leadership.
  • Deliver training and ongoing reinforcement to ensure field alignment.

Technical and Market Expertise

  • Maintain deep technical fluency in APIs, OpenAPI specifications, API design workflows, governance models, and developer tooling ecosystems.
  • Engage credibly with technical buyers, customers, and internal product teams.
  • Conduct competitive analysis, win-loss reviews, and customer interviews with a strong technical lens.
  • Identify emerging trends in API standards, developer experience, and platform engineering.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Act as the connective tissue across Product, Engineering, Growth, Sales, Customer Success, and Developer Relations.
  • Influence without authority across multiple product teams and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to broader SmartBear API lifecycle and platform-level messaging.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of Product Marketing experience in B2B SaaS.
  • Demonstrated ownership of pipeline or revenue-impact goals in partnership with Growth or Demand teams.
  • Strong technical acumen with hands-on experience working with APIs and API specifications.
  • Proven experience marketing developer tools, platforms, or infrastructure products.
  • Ability to engage deeply with technical buyers while translating value for business stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting sales motions across self-serve, mid-market, and enterprise.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with executive-level presence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with API design, documentation, governance, or API lifecycle platforms.
  • Familiarity with OpenAPI, Swagger, Stoplight, or competing tools.
  • Experience in product-led growth environments and trial-to-paid motions.
  • Background partnering closely with Product Management or Engineering organizations.
  • Experience in highly competitive, fast-moving developer tool markets.
