People Operations Generalist

Smartsheet Bulgaria is looking for an experienced professional to represent our People and Culture team in Bulgaria.  This role will require an individual to support in multiple functions ranging from employee relations, benefits and leave, compliance and general workplace services.  This is a new team and this will be a pivotal role in growing Smartsheet’s presence in Bulgaria.    

This is a remote eligible position and you may work remotely from anywhere in Bulgaria where Smartsheet is registered.  Occasional travel may be required to Sofia.  You will report to the Sr. Manager of People Operations who is based in the US.  

You Will:

  • Act as the local subject matter expert on local labor laws and regulations
  • Support the People & Culture department in the deployment of employee programs designed to attract, motivate, and develop employees and identify high potential employees
  • Manage employee relations issues from intake to closure with managers and employees, including partnering with outside legal counsel as necessary 
  • Assist in the creation of offer letters and job descriptions and the management of work authorizations and internal transfers
  • Leverage internal data metrics to analyze, recommend, and influence changes within the business
  • Prepare and and oversee employee onboarding and events, including: background checks, onboarding paperwork, new hire onboarding, equipment provisioning and “welcome events”
  • Provide language support which may entail translating and back translating corporate memorandums, training, policies, government documents, etc.  
  • Operate leave management on behalf of the company
  • Supervise all severance and termination procedures
  • Manage and deliver mandatory employee trainings (e.g. New Manager training)
  • Collaborate within a global matrixed organization to deliver tailored solutions to the business 
  • Maintain employee files and HRIS systems
  • Guide and support the annual performance and compensation review processes
  • Update and regularly review the employee Work Rules and other HR Policies
  • Support benefits and leave management on behalf of the company, including non-statutory benefits,  and processes tied to onboarding, change requests, and offboarding
  • Assist the office and IT teams with the coordination of deliveries when necessary, including IT equipment, office catering and branded merchandise, and mail 
  • Occasionally support IT equipment setup for new Smartsheet employees
  • Act as the employer representative for any legal documentation
  • Occasional sourcing or recruiting as needed

You Have:

  • 3-5 years of direct HR experience with emphasis on Bulgarian employee relations and HR processes
  • Written and spoken English business proficiency
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of management
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to manage through ambiguity.
  • Possess a formal understanding of multiple HR systems and processes while working with multiple functional departments
  • Proven ability to move the company forward by applying new ideas to generate solutions and approaches
  • Demonstrate, promote and reinforce an uncompromising commitment to high standards of ethical behavior
  • Display flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities to assist with various projects as needed
  • Model a determined focus and will to succeed that is contagious; handle adversity well, recover quickly and sustain drive over the long haul
  • Advanced level of proficiency using Google Suite
  • HRIS and Smartsheet experience a plus
  • Fluency in English required
  • Legally eligible to work in Bulgaria on an ongoing basis
