Freelance Senior Designer, Global Visual Merchandising

The position will report to the Director, Global Visual Merchandising.

Role Overview

This role is a 6-month freelance position supporting the Global Visual Merchandising team, reporting to the Director, Global Visual Merchandising. This individual is expected to support the development of Visual Merchandising design work in the short term, executing on creative VM concepts and 3D design work. They will partner closely with the Global Creative team to consistently elevate our in-store presence. 

This individual must be a self-starter with advanced design and 3D rendering skills and is able to contribute and translate design ideas as they are introduced and as the Sol de Janeiro business grows. They know design software by heart, can confidently present their work, and have an informed opinion about the why behind the design. They must also have a keen understanding of the importance of consumer engagement and messaging hierarchies to ensure the consumer is being served up the right information at the right time and in an experiential way.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of Global VM campaign guidelines to the highest possible standards
  • Leverage your outstanding graphic and 3D design skills to develop and translate creative concepts into compelling VM designs, including but not limited to, pop-ups or promo sites, window displays, fixtures, and event spaces.
  • Collaborate with VM team and cross functional partners to meet objectives and timelines while effectively giving and receiving feedback to the multiple projects you’re working on.
  • Support VM rendering needs across VM team projects to deliver on aligned guideline presentations.
  • Inspire new ways of thinking and explore inspiring executions using fresh and unique approaches to retail storytelling and consumer engagement.
  • Ensure brand design standards are upheld across all touch points.

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

  • BA/BS/BFA degree in Industrial Design, Interior Design, Environmental Design, or Architecture
  • 5+ years experience as a designer across a variety of practices in spatial design and brand storytelling
  • Previous experience with 3D environment design with a Visual Merchandising focus.
  • Software Requirements: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Rhino, Sketchup, Keyshot
  • Understanding of branding and graphic storytelling within the retail environment.
  • Understanding of vendor specifications and technical drawings.
  • Career track record that shows the candidate has a strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple design projects and to meet deadlines using excellent organizational skills, quality execution and attention to detail.
  • Must be highly collaborative with ability to understand the objectives of all cross-functional partners and work toward a design that meets that need and upholds the creative integrity of the brand.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to articulate ideas clearly and concisely – ability to provide and receive constructive feedback that is necessary to improve designs.
  • Ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced creative environment.

Salary Range

$90,000 - $100,000 USD

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with the possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results.
