Electrical Senior Engineer

Responsible for all aspects of hardware design for Sonicwall Security Appliances: requirements development, conceptual and detailed design, prototyping, verification/validation testing, and transfer to production. Responsible for design trade-off study, technology research and recommendation, core components vendors selection. Be able to perform multi-layer circuit design ranging from digital microprocessor systems to networking security appliances. Be able to take projects through the entire product lifecycle management process (PLM), from inception, to high level design, to final production release, service, and post-mortem analysis.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Authoring specifications

o   Prepare technical documentation including product specifications, layout instructions, test procedures, etc. 

o   Ensure products conform to engineering specifications, regulatory, and customer expectations

o   Provide clear documentation and strong technical support to contract manufacturers during prototyping and production stages

  • Responsible for the entire hardware design process

o   Circuit design, analysis, and signal integrity

o   Power budget

o   Schematic capture

o   BOM creation

o   PCB stack-up and controlled impedance

o   Working closely with contract manufacturers (CM) during all builds, from prototyping through production

  • Component vendors selection
  • Component and circuit qualification
  • Test, characterize, and validate the functionality of full product
  • Design documentation, change notices, reviews, and product history support
  • Operate in a team environment with other hardware and software engineers

o   Working closely with CAD designers on layout and routing

o   Working closely with Software engineers for bring-up and debug

 

Requirements: 

  • Strong understanding of power and digital, networking electronics, product level integration, design validation, debugging, and data analysis
  • Analytical skills for device selection and prototyping
  • Power/Digital for networking electronics (CPU/SoC circuit level implementations, signal integrity, high/low speed interfaces, Memories, DDR, Ethernet, Magnetics, TVS/ESD/Surge/EMI)
  • Product level integration including architecture and design, board level design, and design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Design validation and root cause analysis
  • Recent experience with lab equipment (logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer, Oscilloscope, etc.)
  • Data analysis (DVT data, compiling, interpretation, factory yield analysis)
  • Embedded system design using Intel, AMD, ARM, and MIPS processors
  • High-speed signaling experience (10/25/100GbE, PCIe, SATA, USB, SPI, etc.)
  • Knowledge of 802.3 Ethernet standards and experience designing products with high-speed interfaces (from both a hardware and software perspective)
  • Knowledge of wireless 802.11 standards
  • Knowledge and experience in designing products with security features  – such as TPMs, TRNG, etc.
  • Familiarity with signal integrity and power integrity concepts such as impedance, differential routing, insertion loss, board stack-up
  • Cadence CIS and Allegro experience
  • Ability to prepare key deliverables such as BOMs, quotes, schematics, design/test files, component request/qualification, ECOs, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for presenting design reviews, interacting with engineering teams, vendors, suppliers and enhancing documentation of design guidelines and processes

 

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
  • 8+ years of electrical engineering and hardware design engineering experience with networking electronics preferred
  • At least 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent experience preferred
