Position Summary

SonicWall is seeking a highly experienced Senior Hardware Compliance Engineer to lead worldwide regulatory compliance activities for network security hardware products, including WLAN/RLAN devices and wireless access points. This role requires deep expertise in global RF/wireless certifications, product safety, EMC, environmental compliance, and emerging cybersecurity regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will serve as the technical authority and project lead for regulatory compliance activities across the full product lifecycle — from new product introduction (NPI) through sustaining engineering and regional certification maintenance.

This role requires extensive cross-functional collaboration with hardware, RF, and firmware engineering teams, as well as product management, manufacturing, test laboratories, certification agencies, and global regulatory authorities. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage worldwide regulatory compliance activities for network security hardware products, including wireless access points, routers, gateways, and related networking devices.
  • Own global certification strategy, execution, and maintenance for RF, EMC, Safety, Environmental, and applicable Cybersecurity regulatory requirements.
  • Drive compliance planning and approvals for new product introductions (NPI) and support sustaining engineering efforts for existing products.
  • Coordinate and manage certifications across major global markets including FCC, ISED, CE/RED, UKCA, ACMA, and Wi-Fi Alliance.
  • Support additional country approvals including India, Japan, Korea, and China.
  • Work closely with cross-functional global engineering teams to identify regulatory risks early in the design cycle and drive mitigation strategies.
  • Review and approve regulatory test plans, test reports, declarations, and certification documentation.
  • Manage external compliance labs, consultants, certification bodies, and regulatory vendors.
  • Prepare and manage compliance project budgets, purchase orders, vendor payments, and certification schedules.
  • Monitor evolving worldwide regulatory requirements and ensure ongoing compliance of shipping products.
  • Serve as the primary internal and external technical expert for regulatory compliance matters.
  • Support factory audits, agency inquiries, customer compliance requests, and product documentation activities.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity and product security teams on regulatory requirements impacting RF, EMC, and safety certifications.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on hardware regulatory compliance experience in wireless/networking products.
  • Strong expertise with IEEE 802.11 wireless technologies including 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be (Wi-Fi 7).
  • Deep understanding of worldwide RF certification requirements and approval processes.
  • Proven experience managing certifications for FCC, ISED, CE/RED, UKCA, ACMA, and Wi-Fi Alliance.
  • Strong understanding of Product Safety standards (UL/IEC), EMC compliance, RF exposure/SAR requirements, and environmental regulations including RoHS, REACH, PFAS, and California Proposition 65.
  • Experience working with external test laboratories and certification agencies such as UL, TÜV, SGS, Intertek, or equivalent.
  • Strong project management and vendor management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively across global teams and time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with regulatory approvals for India, Japan, Korea, and China.
  • Knowledge of emerging cybersecurity regulatory requirements impacting hardware compliance, including EU RED Cybersecurity Delegated Act and FCC cybersecurity requirements.
  • Experience with networking, firewall, SD-WAN, or enterprise wireless products.
  • Familiarity with modular approvals and end-product certification strategies.
  • Traditional Chinese language skills are a plus.
