Corporate Counsel, Product Regulatory & Compliance and ESG (AMER)
San Mateo, CA (hybrid) *will require onsite work, 2x days per week

Join our dynamic Global Legal Team at PlayStation! As Corporate Counsel, you’ll work closely with teams across our global business, including Product Safety & Compliance, ESG and Service and Business Operations, to establish processes and compliance programs to support the Product Regulatory and ESG functions across the full scope of PlayStation products and services. The best candidates will have a strong knowledge of the key product regulatory and sustainability laws and regulations impacting video games consoles and the ability to work closely with business partners and colleagues within the legal team to provide nuanced and informed legal advice. What you’ll be doing: 

  • Lead legal support for Product Regulatory, ESG and Trade Compliance matters in North America with the support of the Director, Legal – Product Regulatory & Compliance and ESG. 
  • Design, develop and implement compliance programs and processes to support SIE’s compliance with new product and ESG regulations and frameworks in the America’s region. 
  • Advise on key product safety and consumer product regulations such as the Consumer Product Safety Act and support SIE’s compliance with extended producer responsibility and substance compliance laws and drafting related agreements. 
  • Collaborate cross functionally with teams such as Product and Direct to Consumer to ensure regulatory requirements are integrated into product lifecycles at relevant stages of commerce. 
  • Work closely with the ESG team on a wide range of evolving ESG laws and regulations such as mandatory disclosure obligations 
  • Work closely with SIE’s ESG leader, public policy and business colleagues on strategy for key ESG and sustainability related policy issues such as Batteries and Right to Repair. 
  • Support internal business teams on a variety of trade requirements and compliance matters such as import / export regulations and implement systems and appropriate due diligence programs for export controls regulatory frameworks and other trade topics. 

What we're looking for: 

  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience – either in-house or at a law firm. 
  • JD or LLM degree from top law school; admitted to a U.S. state bar. California State Bar membership is preferred. At a minimum, the candidate must be qualified for and quickly obtain Registered In-House Counsel status in California and the willingness to maintain that status during employment. 
  • Strong knowledge of, product regulatory requirements in the Americas and good understanding of the evolving ESG regulatory landscape. 
  • Proven ability to think strategically, work collaboratively and lead complex and highly impactful cross-functional projects from concept to completion. 
  • Ambitious self-starter. Deals well with ambiguity in fast paced, multiple project environment and comfortable working on complex legal and policy matters. 
  • Keeps up-to-speed with developments in the law and regulation relevant to the role and sharing knowhow within the global Legal team. 
  • Good communication skills and ability to adjust your communication style to reflect the needs of different internal audiences. 
  • Eagerness to continue learning. 
  • Experience in the entertainment industry and/or with technology and video games is a plus (but not essential). 
  • Sense of humor.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$209,800 - $314,600 USD
