Role overview:

Join PlayStation, where innovation, technology, and play converge to build a world-class entertainment experience. As a Corporate Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in crafting the future of our Product Development and Operations team, by partnering closely with and supporting our dynamic teams developing new and innovative PlayStation peripheral products. This attorney will also partner with other SIE business teams on commercial and procurement matters and be responsible for negotiating, drafting, and implementing a wide variety of agreements. This role will report to the Legal Director, Platform Experience Group.

The ideal candidate will not only be adept at providing legal guidance, but will also be business-savvy, understanding SIE's overarching goals and objectives. This is an outstanding opportunity to be at the forefront of legal and business strategy within a global leader in entertainment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Strategic Counsel: partner with key collaborators within the Product Development and Operations teams, providing support and advice on development projects for peripheral hardware and related software.
  • Provide counsel to proactively lead the review and negotiation of a broad range of commercial agreements with a strong focus on IP development, technology licensing, hardware supply, SaaS and professional services agreements.
  • Process Refinement: Contribute to the refinement of current processes and procedures, such as by creating templates and developing legal trainings and playbooks.
  • Risk Management: Identify and assess legal risks associated with commercial agreements and provide actionable advice to mitigate those risks.
  • Mentorship and Compliance: Offer timely and practical guidance on risk management, internal policy compliance and contractual obligations.
  • Foster collaboration with different teams, including legal, security, procurement, and finance, to align with company objectives, meet regulatory requirements, and fulfill contractual obligations.

 

What we are looking for:

  • Educational Background: J.D. degree from ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent) with membership in good standing in a US state bar.  California State Bar membership is preferred. At a minimum, the candidate must be qualified for and quickly obtain Registered In-House Counsel status in California and the willingness to maintain that status during employment.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience reviewing, negotiating, and drafting commercial agreements, with a focus on the technology industry. In-house experience specializing in technology transactions is a plus.
  • Communication Skills: Outstanding communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing and working collaboratively with diverse and internationally dispersed stakeholders and teams.
  • Relationship Builder: The desire to develop positive relationships internally and to work in a diverse and inclusive team.
  • Organization Skills: Excellent organizational skills and a proven track record of successfully managing multiple projects and prioritizing effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professionalism: High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Compliance Focus: Strong focus on designing and implementing practical compliance solutions and operationalizing commitments.
  • Proactive Nature: Proactive bias for action and ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Business Insight and Humor: A keen business sense, and a sense of humor.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$209,800 - $314,600 USD
