Senior Mixed Methods Researcher -  Quantitative Focus 

Location: CA (San Diego, or Los Angeles preferred) 

Team: Platform Experience Research, PlayStation 

Join PlayStation's Platform Experience Research team as a Senior Mixed Methods Researcher with a Quantitative Focus. In this dynamic role, you’ll help shape the future of PlayStation’s products and services by designing and executing rigorous research that uncovers deep insights about current and future users. You will bring a strong quantitative skill set and a mixed-methods mindset, with a passion for shaping innovative strategies that push the boundaries of gaming and digital entertainment. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Design & Lead Research Projects: Conduct end-to-end UX research across the product lifecycle - from generative exploration and concept evaluation to usability and in-market performance tracking. 

  • Design and lead mixed methods research programs that integrate qualitative (e.g., interviews, usability testing, ethnography) and quantitative approaches (e.g., surveys, segmentation, A/B testing, modeling, behavioral analytics) to deliver holistic insights. 

  • Drive Quantitative Research Excellence: Lead high-impact survey-based research, segmentation, experimental design, modeling, and behavioral analytics. Ensure methodological rigor and statistical validity across all quant efforts. 

  • Inspire Action: Translate complex findings into actionable recommendations using storytelling, data visualization, and business impact framing. Support product strategy, design, and innovation goals. 

  • Assess opportunity: Partner with Product and Business partners to evaluate product-market fit, willingness to pay, business model viability, and emerging technology readiness. 

  • Collaborate & influence: Partner closely with Design, Product, Engineering, Analytics, and other research groups (UXR, Consumer Insights, BI, Data Science). 

  • Mentor & elevate: Coach peers and partners on quantitative and mixed methods approaches. Support a culture of innovation, curiosity, and experimentation. 

  • Orchestrate & Manage Vendors: Oversee external vendors for large-scale ad hoc and recurring research initiatives. Develop and define workflows to advance new ways of working. 

What We’re Looking For 

  • Education: Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Psychology, HCI, Social Sciences, Behavioral Economics, Statistics, or related field. 

  • Experience: 6+ years in UX Research roles or similar, with proven impact across exploratory and evaluative projects. 

  • Quant Expertise: Demonstrated fluency in survey research, A/B testing, statistical analysis, modeling, and quantitative behavioral analysis. Proficiency in tools like SPSS, R, Python, or similar. 

  • Extensive Survey Experience: Expertise in conducting survey research end-to-end including questionnaire writing, survey programming, ensuring representativeness, fielding, analysis and reporting.  

  • Mixed Methods Rigor: Strong grounding in qualitative methods (e.g., IDIs, usability testing, ethnography) and Quantitative methods, with a track record of crafting research programs that integrate multiple methods, leading to holistic insights. 

  • Strategic Thinking: Skilled at identifying high-leverage research opportunities and aligning them with business objectives, product strategy, design and innovation goals. 

  • Business Acumen: Experience in assessing business models, conducting market sizing, value chain analysis, or willingness-to-pay research is a plus. 

  • Visualization & Storytelling: Ability to convey complex ideas visually and verbally through reports, dashboards, infographics, and frameworks. 

  • Transferable Expertise: While prior experience in gaming, media or software is welcome, it is not required. We value skills that can translate across domains and welcome candidates who bring a fresh perspective and methodological expertise from other industries.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$151,700 - $227,500 USD
